It's $850k now is it?

If he really wanted to stay, he would if GC didn't low ball him.

A 2 year deal doesn't sound like they really saw him as a part of their long term plans.
What!? lowball how is 650k a lowball it was more than what he is worth atm which is about 500k.

TBH I think major hurdle in this trade is whether it will be this years first or a future first. I’d imagine GC will want this years, where as AFC would prefer it to be a future first
Issue being for the Suns is that we have possibly 3 academy players that are trending to be draftable in 2023 with 1 looking like a top 10 pick, so a future first really does nothing for us.

You're a bit warped though. Angriest poster on the GC board.
FTR there's not a hope in hell GC will get anywhere near our future first. Trade bait for JHF.
Wow about time I got a cool title. Thanks chief.

Unless there is a good chance that future 1st of ours is low enough and gets in before a bid on the academy players and there look to be some great talents next year. Getting a pick of them before the academy kids could be big.

If North get a PP it will be the same as what Carlton got. And end of first round.
The AFL screwed up when they gave GC the PPs they did. That will never happen again.
You were never going to be able to get Ashcroft, so if he's taken at pick 2 or pick 7 it won't make one bit of difference about who will be there at that pick.

You'd hope, but I'm not so sure.

I wouldn't be surprised if, behind the scenes, the AFL helped with getting Clarkson to North (fixing a basket case, like the did with Melbourne a few years back), and part of that was promises regarding PP.

Why should Gold Coast take a gamble on Adelaides next years first for no particular reason when Adelaide has pick 5 now for this draft?

Or, we could get a good low pick a full 12 months before those academy talents by taking pick 5 this year.

It's not pick 5 or future first.

It'd be pick 5 or future first AND more to compensate for the delay and risk.

What if the crows dug in and only put up a future 1st and say refuse to discuss this years 1st. Are GC going to send rankine to the draft and turn down a probable future top 5 pick...ballsy move if they do, but their list manager might get the sack

So might ours if one of the other 4 clubs picks him up before he gets to us.

Why should Crows cough it up? You honestly think we wouldn't just put the future 1st on the table and then when 4.55pm Friday 7th October comes around the Suns don't take it? Come on. We're a young team so it makes sense to try use future picks.

Just keeping in mind that a player (e.g. Jack Martin) can set their own contractual terms if they nominate for the PSD or the National Draft. Jack Martin did it and put his nominated terms as $1million per season for 2 seasons (and then once signed by Carlton re-jigged it to $3.1M over 5 seasons) . You honestly think if Rankine put those sort of $$'s up in his contract, not to mention other personal terms, that another club would waste their pick in the National draft on him and cough up that sort of money? It's highly doubtful it comes to that, but it will sit in the background and exist to force an actual trade to go through.

The deal will get done, but let's not live in fantasy land and pretend another club is going to take that risk. Gold Coast didn't even have to cough up a draft pick (in the PSD) for Jack Martin, and they still didn't do it.... (They then wasted a future Pick 10 which was sent to Geelong because they didn't have a 2nd round pick in that draft, one of 2 that Carlton were offering)

Crows will split this years pick if possible (potentially with GWS, who will have a LOT of 1st round draft capital after trading various players), and one will go to GC. Or it will be Pick 5 and something like a 2nd coming back to the Crows, or a straight offer of our 2023 1st.

All of this other talk of 3 x firsts, players like Rachele included are just sheer delusion being whipped up by Vic Media and 'Port-centric' commentators here in SA.

and other clubs, like Essendon and West coast, who both have the cap space, can and seemingly will take him before Adelaide does.

North could also do it, although they haven't shown the interest the other 2 have (yet).

PSD is a much better threat if you have pick 1 or 2.

If GC really wanted to make a stand, they would have re-drafted Martin with pick 1 when the PSD came around, but they let him get to Carlton for nothing.

Now, that would have certainly put a stop to the PSD threat, not just at GC but for every club.

Once teams start to pick the best talent in the PSD and stop letting players use this as an alternative to FA, the better.

Given Essendon have definitely shown interest in Rankine, and WC seemly have too, and both have the cap space, this could be the year.

That said, I think if this started happening, the rules around PSD would change.

Which is a good thing. Now that there is the SPP, they should remove it altogether IMO.

If you're not a FA and a trade can't be agreed on, then you go into a the national draft. It might actually help clubs at the bottom of the ladder get better young players as the top clubs are using their ND picks on established players.

I think that was suggested due to the Suns having a lot of picks already in this years draft and thus could be tempted to shift some draft capital into next season.. taking the crows 2023 1st for Rankine helps with that..

Sounds like draft tampering to me.

True..

But Melbourne had the pick before Carlton in the PSD when Martin went the PSD route.

The Dees even rang up and told Martin that they would be willing to pick him in front of Carlton and asked his opinion on that..

Martin told them thanks but no thanks, I will only be playing for The Blues next year.. and the Dees said no worries..

Clubs arent gonna pick up players that have openly told them they dont want to play for them especially when its for $700k contracts..

There will be a trade done here though.. this wont go to the PSD.

And geez… talk about a sliding doors moment for Martin!.. could possibly have a flag under his belt if he hadve said yes to the dees.

Things are changing, and Rankine will need more clubs to say no before he gets to Adelaide than Martin did with Carlton.

Does Adelaide want to take that risk?

So.. you reacon the eagles, kanga’s, giants and Bombers are gonna pay Izak $700k or $800k or even $950k a year (depending on what media source you believe) to sit at home in Adelaide and not play a single game for them for 5 years?..

Big waste of Salary Cap space for absolutely no return.. and very good money for doing nothing if you can get it for young Izak!

Because thats what he could do if they ignored his wishes not to be picked after telling these non SA based clubs that he was only going home to SA and nowhere else.

I think theres only ever been Nick Steven’s that went into the PSD wanting to go to the pies but ended up being picked earlier by the Blues.. but that was a Victorian lad wanting to go home, and he ended up going home to Victoria, just not to the club he really wanted..

But like I said.. this wont end up in the PSD.. a trade will happen.

This Bigfooty and media PSD talk is all nonsense.
