Redbridge has it 50-50 in Victoria with the LNP primary in the 40s. Report in the H-Sun behind the paywall.
The usual suspects will say "what else would you expect from the HUN?"

Victorians do not have confidence in Allen's ability to lead this state. Health, law & order, roads...

Allen has either been Infrastructure Minister or Premier for at least the last two years. In that time this government has flatly refused to hand over a detailed business case on SRL to Infrastructure Australia, the Federal agency, meaning the already limited Federal funding promised by Albo is yet to be paid. What does the refusal to hand over a detailed business case tell us? Either there is no business plan or the statistics do not stack up.

It is such a familiar theme with this government, and Victorians are awake to it. Dan was able to bat criticism away with conviction. Allan and her cronies like Pearson don't have that ability so they have adopted the mantra, "say nothing".

Will be interesting if they run with that as Redbridge who ran the poll is owned by Kos Samaras who used to be a member of the labor party

Who cares what we have? It's completely irrelevant. The Allan government expects federal funding. Money has been promised, but the Allan government won't hand over anything to support the case. What's so difficult to understand about that?

Would you hand over money without anything to show for the investment?

I could be wrong but there already been some federal funding for SRL?

Looks like the Feds have tipped in $2.2B, but will not tip in any more without the business case. That was asked for 2 years ago!! The state government is actively seeking a further $10 billion in federal funds.

Strange way to do business...

Not that actively...

This is how dire Victoria’s debt crisis is. No. 154.

Hundreds of new social homes to be built on Crown land have been left without funding after the Victorian government quietly removed 15 projects from its Big Housing Build scheme to cut costs.

Is there a non paywall version of that?

Are the sites going ahead just without any public or affordable component?

From looking on twitter it looks like the developers are building it all and keeping it all now

So we're just giving away public landl fully for profit instead of subsidising some housing to pretend we're not giving away public land for profit

****ing grim

Delayed or seeking other funding sources it seems.

So at the same time housing supply is at best delayed, the Vic govt is begging the Feds to let more foreign students which will increase the demand on housing

you know Rob you could have left your whinge about immigration out given without it we'd already be in recession so no government is going to stop it

welcome to capitalism where the uni sector exists to make a profit off international students and the wider economy needs unending growth which only comes via population increase but also means governments don't want to build houses and impact their developer donors profits

the issue is not immigration and the people pushing it as the problem want to see the UK riots happen here

The story here should be that the Government is saying homelessness isn't a priority for them

Budget savings at the expense of people

The allocation is ****ed. We live around 10km North East of the city and there has been a huge vacant block of public land sitting there for years. Just announced that 450 townhouses/apartments are to be built with 10% allocated to "social housing" I don't even know what social housing is, sounds like some dodgy way of not doing public housing.

That whole lot should be dedicated to public housing. God knows its needed.

yeah social housing means it could be public or it could be run by another company

there are quite a few "not for profits" owned by for profit housing industry companies that run sites for the government

so instead of dealing with Housing Vic you deal with company XX who is getting money off the government because they are not for profit but just happen to be owned by the developer that built the site for example

another way to rort money into peoples pockets while providing a public service generally

nice water muddying umbrella term

and yeah the 10% numbers are diabolical, developer gets prime real estate cheap or free, gets to sell a bunch for profit and get the profit on the ones used for social housing subsidised by the tax payer, and then potentially gets paid to run it for decades as a nice little income stream

Immigration is part of the housing problem and the quickest way to reduce demand (cutting non skilled migration) without impacting on the economy if targeted properly

However there are many other solutions, the reason I highlighted was the govts decision to seek to increase demand for housing whilst at the same tjme cutting supply.

Given the scale of our housing problem, surely could find other cuts to deal with the debt they created other than hurting people in desperate need.

By the way agree with everything you said except about people who want sensible cuts to immigration supporting those riots. They were a disgrace and represent a small and mostly dumb easily led minority and make it harder to have a sensible conversation about immigration levels.

again this is based on the assumption that we don't have an artificial supply issue

cutting immigration will not deal with the root cause of the problem with housing, it won't treat the symptoms either really because again the supply issue is not because of immigration

and yes they could find other things to cut, there are plenty of things they could cut, also plenty of ways they could increase revenue

the problem is those other avenues have stronger resistance because they involve trying to take money from people with money

and as we saw with the very short lived attempt at the elite school payroll tax, governments don't have the appetite for a fight like that

so they cut public services, especially to vulnerable people who cannot fight back

If only there was $200bn dollars that could've been used for projects like this and many others. Oh well.
I just like how rank and file members of Vic Labor were already protesting how little public housing the project was going to deliver

And now its going to deliver even less but they're still selling off the land
