Oppo Camp Jack Ginnivan (Traded to Hawks 2023)

Not based on his season this year. Stop reminiscing about his 2022 season.
Watch the prelim. There's a handpass he gives, under pressure, onto a running player. That sort of thing not every player can do. He has intelligence in those situations. You can get a guy with great times at a draft combine, this is something else, footy brain. We lost a good player. He was an arseclown I know. But a smart footballer. He comes on for 5 minutes and is in the game. He didn't play much this year but he is no slouch.

I think that’s unfair to McRae.

All the talk out of exit interviews was constructive/positive. I think we intended to keep him, we just weren’t at the stage of being able to offer him a four-year contract.

Hawthorn did, and we facilitated the trade Jack wanted. We move on.
I agree completely, and maybe I am a little unfair. McRae is a dream coach right now, perfect for us. I am just a little uncomfortable with "44 sons" as a relationship. The rest of what the club is doing is really sound.

We won't win every year, I am really enjoying this one. Can't wait for the next one.

I'll still give a little cheer for our exers. Grundy, Witts, Adams, Stephenson and Ginniboy.

Very talented, and I think that works still if you're an inside mid - but if you're not, you've got to be able to run

The message he said me last night
" Hey Jen, thanks for always being my number 1 fan -- you're a legend!! Hope you dont throw that jumper or frame of me away.
See you in brown and gold for one game next year hahahah"

I said I would come to some of his games, but wear my anzac jumper with his nunber on it lol

He's a good kid.

I think the idea of it , is a more relatable and approachable coach & a view of care for the whole list. Unsure what is uncomfortable with this.

People saying he shouldn't have been let go. They said the same thing about Grundy, Treloar and Stephenson. None of them have set the world on fire since they left. I have faith this will be a similar outcome.

ew, doesnt suit him at all. Gross

On a sartorial level I don't know how anyone could look good in those god-awful baby-diarrhea colours.

This is not why I chose to support this club but stylewise the black and white uniform is flattering and timeless.

Of the 40 he kicked in 22 how many do you reckon were from high frees? At least 15-20?

Now that umps refuse to pay a high free against him even when his head is ripped off it takes away one of his main goal scoring avenues.

He isn’t super quick and doesn’t chase/tackle that hard.

He had a good game against Essendon but that would be a reflection of the opposition. I have a feeling he’ll do ok against bad teams but not much against good teams.

Now he is playing with a bottom 8 team so supply and opportunity won’t be anything like he has experienced the last 2 seasons.

Asked and answered. There was analysis done that showed only 10 of his 2022 goals came from frees, and not all of those frees were for high tackles.

I have no particular fears for Ginni. Hawthorn player now.

Also, it might be time to start viewing ANZAC medals through a different lens. The game is exclusively played against a team who hasn’t won a final in the time Jack’s been alive. It’s not the Norm Smith.
Best on at a packed MCG is still something but I get your point, Seedsman also has one.

Fear isn’t the right word, I just don’t like seeing talent wasted but yeah I should let go now.

He can call them his 44 little angels/dolls etc for all I care.
They are playing for the coach and he got a premiership out of them.

His manager pushed him out, thinking its what was best for him. Now he isn't at a big profile club, hopefully he can be out of the spotlight and be the player he wants to be.

“I picked up the phone and called ‘Wrighty’ after my phone started blowing up (about trade speculation) … as it was put to me that Jack was being floated around (to other clubs),” Meeson said on SEN.

“Wrighty said to me that they hadn’t had any conversations. I don’t want to go tit for tat, but from that conversation I got off the phone to him knowing that Jack’s future wasn’t at Collingwood.

“Who initiated the discussions was probably me on the back of some trusted people in the industry saying ‘look his name is getting thrown out there’. So I picked up the phone and took Wrighty at his word that he hadn’t had any conversations about Jack leaving.

“But from that, you start to unwind a little bit on ‘Where does he sit and what does it (his position within the team) look like, and can you give us any assurances?’

“There wasn’t a whole heap of fighting to keep Jack at the footy club. We had to move quickly and that’s OK. That’s the nature of the industry … we move on.”

Meeson conceded that the Magpies’ recruitment of 2023 Norm Smith Medal winner Bobby Hill this time last year and Lachie Schultz this week had shown the writing was on the wall for Ginnivan in terms of where he was placed within the team.

“When they decided to bring in some guys over the last few years – which they are entitled to do – it had a bit of an effect on where Jack stood in the standings of the Collingwood Football Club,” Meeson said.
“He had one year to go and he has kind of been in and out of the side, and as they say you have to read the room.

“We had to potentially look at some other options.”

He stressed a few other clubs had expressed some interest in the 42-game small forward, but Hawthorn looked to be the best option heading towards the trade deadline, with coach Sam Mitchell being crucial to the talks.

“When Hawthorn were on top of their game, Sam was a public figure during that time, and everything he did was under the microscope,” Meeson said.

“He saw it a bit with Buddy (Franklin), just with the hysteria that was created. I am not saying Jack is in the same class as those guys, but he understands when you walk down the street and get a coffee, everyone is looking at you.

“Is he (Ginnivan) the most elite professional trainer … probably not. But he is young and not many players are at 20 years of age.

“I think the whirlwind he has had over the last two or three years (has been tough). He was relatively unknown, this enigma … it is kind of hard to escape that and settle into your career. Was it training standards, was it just him, was it just being at Collingwood under the magnifying glass?

“Less than 20 days ago he became a premiership player and now he finds himself at another footy club.

“Hopefully this (move) is what Jack needs to settle into his career and to just take the spotlight off him.”

He is lucky to have played in the premiership as he did not contribute much at all.In fact when sidey ran up to him and told him to kick a punt Ginnivan whipped around and kicked a bananna from 50 which didnt make the distance stupid play.
If Adams was fit no way Ginnivan would have played or been a premiership player.

At 20 too wayward typical kid will learn the hard way. The fly gave him many chances but Mitchell will burn his arse at hawthorn.

He's a trouble maker Schultz the tank much better player.

See ya Ginnivan he spew when pies go back to back he wont play in a flag with hawthorn just as Henry wont play for a flag with Geelong

These types of players don't play to win flags they play for the media attention and $$$$$$$$

Would not be surprised if he asks for a trade back to pies in say 3 years

Good luck make sure the door doesn't hit your arse on the way OUT!

Fair bit to unpack here.

Lol.

This is a fairly alarming thing for a manager to say.

Real emphasis on wanting to get out of the spotlight

Yep. Their phones were blowing up because the media simply could not stop talking about Jack being traded from day one of the trade period. Despite denials from everyone, they kept at it and at it.

Real emphasis on wanting to get out of the spotlight

And yet calling him an “enigma” despite being young and unknown, and asking if it’s Jack, and being in the spotlight… suggests he is the reason for the attention.

So Meesen saw the writing on the wall and initiated.
We made it clear enough that we weren’t going to fight too hard to keep him.
Meesen admits Ginni is not a particularly professional trainer.
Meesen essentially admits that Ginni brings attention upon himself, and so might be better at a lesser profile club.

I mean, he might be happier being where there is less attention, but he also clearly likes attention. And while he will get to play more senior footy at Hawthorn, is that going to mean necessarily better footy? Not my problem anymore but you have to wonder.

Interesting language from a manager! I'm not sure that this guy is the best representative for young Jack.

Sartorially speaking, who has the best kit?

Subjectively Collingwood's but there are a few colour palettes ideal for sports branding.

The safest bet would be to go with monochrome tones and add a small splash of red. :)

Often it's easier to talk about what not to do and a pic is worth 1000 words:
