It can turn pretty quick. But are we 'on the up'? It'd be great to get him at a reasonable price, but we're still a couple of elite players away from genuinely contending and next year's first pick could be as high as this year's.
Aren’t all these scenarios based on getting good picks for Houston kind of forgetting that they will lose a really good player - pretty much in his prime - from a position on the field that Paer struggle in?
If the plan is to put Luko as key forward and send Rutogalea back to cover Dan the Man?
Houston was one of the players I saw as crucial to their success, so losing him feels like big loss. Not sure how adding Lukosius to an underperforming forward line will remedy that?
It's not too late this year...agreed, and hats off to them, I wish we took this approach with Laird years ago
But if giving up the future 1st nets us Luko and a top 25 pick to get Dodson that’s a win
We can then go all in end of next year with future 1st for NWM
Youd think (hope) it wouldnt be, but I dont think it'll be too far off if Nicks is coachingNot if future first is pick 4.
We won't finish that lowNot if future first is pick 4.
I thought that Houston is being underpaid in terms of his value and wanted to renegotiate his contract at Port and Port said no we're not doing that you should look elsewhere if you want more money.Purely a first person recount but from what I recall the initial Houston trade rumours were that Port were shopping Houston looking to get back into the draft. These rumours were laughed at, and a few weeks later Houston wanting to leave Port started popping up in the media.
Laird would have as much trade value these days as I doIt's not too late this year...
Most in here didnt think we would be a bottom 4 team in 2024.We won't finish that low
If it gets to round 8 and we're looking missing finals then Nicks will get the boot over the midseason break
Then a deadcat bounce for an honorable 9th /10th or fluke an 8th spot
If, and BIG if, we get those 3 incoming players and we still finish bottom 4 the whole place needs burning down. Most in here didnt think we would be a bottom 4 team in 2024.
I wouldnt rule out a repeat happening. All it takes is a couple of injuries to key players and a tough draw and were screwed again.
It why if we are potentially negotiating using a F1 for Luko it must be viewed as a Top 4 pick in 2025.
No.If, and BIG if, we get those 3 incoming players and we still finish bottom 4 the whole place needs burning down.
I can see Port offering more for Luko than us, potentially. If Port's Marshall has to retire early due to concussions, and Dixon also retires it make Luko way more of a need for Port.
Port's forward line is already their weakest spot and their key backs other than Alir are average at best
Sounds like he had scans and he's clear to returnIf Port's Marshall has to retire early due to concussions, and Dixon also retires it make Luko way more of a need for Port.

Well yeah, but we're leaving West Lakes anyway so we may as wellNo.
It means we need a new coach.
Port have way more list holes than they have the capital to fix and losing Houston to get the capital to fix one of them just creates another. It's honestly fascinated watching people talk about them as if their list management is so much better than ours when a cursory glance shows some massive flaws. If Port's Marshall has to retire early due to concussions, and Dixon also retires it make Luko way more of a need for Port.

Got form in this area too... Wingard, Duursma, etc.Port initiated it!

It will be easier to play in our forward system though, Port Power will probably have the salary cap to absorb the 2 years at $1M if they don't need to offer 7 years at $850K for Perryman.I am sure he already knows where he wants to go but I think Luko will decide to go to Port. They need him more now than a month ago and there is a clear spot up forward for him.
Also he's leaving a team likely to play finals and Port will play finals again in 2025 which must be more appealing. It's a big gamble to come to us.
They will be able to use the picks they get for Houston.
Cumming will choose us and Perryman will go to Victoria
They do desperately need Luko more than us, he has leverage here.I am sure he already knows where he wants to go but I think Luko will decide to go to Port. They need him more now than a month ago and there is a clear spot up forward for him.

Pretty sure they don't have a first round pick this year, and not sure if they're allowed to trade next year's? They used their 2022 + 23 first rounders in the JHF trade, then this year's first round as part of the trade to get Ratugolea and Zerk-Thatcher last year. The AFL let that through because that previous first had been traded for JHF who was only 1 year in the system so basically a draftee anyway. Not sure if they'll be allowed to trade next year's too, though?
If they end up trading Houston then that could give them some capital to work with for Luko (or whoever else they're into). If Luko does end up going for just a 2nd round pick then it might as well be ours and we should be up to our eyeballs in that. If Port are giving up a first rounder then they're welcome to him.

Dan has new relationship with a lady who happens to live in Melbourne where Port have alwasy helped their home sick players out but would be very contented if he stayed.I thought that Houston is being underpaid in terms of his value and wanted to renegotiate his contract at Port and Port said no we're not doing that you should look elsewhere if you want more money.
