Richards was an interesting pick given the small forwards we have, seems he was too good to not draft that mate I guess. Good mover and had the smarts, think he’ll get a ho eventually and make a fist of it.

There’s no reason why one of the small forwards couldn’t be played elsewhere on the field.

I still have concerns about his kicking but I’m very confident he’ll be a player. Think with Ryan, Allan, Richards and Steene we’ve added 4 very exciting prospects.
yeah would also like to see him lift his eyes and improve his long kicking. Has a bit of Mayne vibes atm, with short chip kicks. Has the pace the open up the game, so if he can cut lines and deliver long to targets, he'll be v good

Ryan a good prospect… but unlike Allen who I’d play very soon…

I’d give Ryan a bit more time to add a little more bulk, if he is to play as a mid sized defender… potentially a future Howe replacement

Whereas Allen is more likely to play an outside role to begin with and is already 85kg (and growing)

I’d drop WHE and play Allen in that running role this week

People say it’s too soon… but pies have bought in young players in less contested roles before… like ginnivan.

Back the talent I say

Overall very happy with what I’ve seen of Allen, Ryan and Steene.

And mature age Richards looks like solid depth should Noble go down

Agree with everything except dropping WHE. Allan would make a good sub. Ease him into it.

I’m very excited about Ed, rapt with the pick and think his upside is absolutely through the roof.

However we’re absolutely dominating at the moment, already have forced changes we need to make and would be very loathe to mess with what’s currently working any more than is necessary.

Expecting a new player to come in and impact straight away in the 4th doesn’t seem like setting someone up for success. Ed Allen should be given 4 quarters to work into the game on his debut.
I posted earlier that, form holding, I anticipate that one of Allen or Ryan will be the Sub for ANZAC Day. The sub role allows the inexperienced players to get the benefit of big game preparation without the opening bounce pressure. It's also gives them a great introduction to the benefits of being a Collingwood listed player - playing on the big stage in front of big crowds.

I don’t see that as a benefit, inexperienced players need time to get into the game. Experienced players are better at impacting after sitting on the bench for three quarters.

The two best games I've seen this year by substitute players have been Reef against the Cats and Cumberland against us - neither of them would be classified as experienced players. Carmichael last year showed in a couple of games that inexperienced subs can have an impact - if their form warrants it - I'd play one of them in a big game.

Neither of them were in their first season playing their first game

Jakob Ryan is dating Ellie Draper (related to Arlo) and his sister is dating Jaiden Magor. That's a very connected family!!!
not related.
Arlo has two brothers, no sisters.
But yes, his sister is dating Magor. I had a chat to Jaiden on the weekend. He played on Ginni.

Maybe a relative haha.

I like how you can just have chats with players from any club - not just Collingwood! It's interesting how intertwined AFL player families are and how much these boys have grown up around each other.

Just like Sam Draper is no relation. It happens. Same surname.
