Not least to provide an example to his players. Clearly what we've learned is that Hird himself was spearheading the push toward and over the line of legality in Essendon's supplement program. He was literally first in line to be injected much of the time, as mentioned in one of the articles.

It makes sense when you think about the experimental and exploratory nature of Essendon's program. Many of the substances they were using haven't yet been cleared for testing on humans, and others are so bleding edge that they've yet to be classified as banned by anti-doping bodies.
If nothing else Hird was demonstrating to his players that he was willing to risk his own body and health by injecting these questionable substances in an effort to reassure them that the program was safe and above board.


What REALLY disgusts me about James Hird is how throughout his career he's been able to maintain a front of being squeaky clean, yet the proof is beginning to surface that underneath that "good guy" exterior is a cold blooded hypocrite who will do anything to win no matter the cost. What a slimy bastard this bloke is turning out to be.

Do you really think Caro would be sticking her neck out and calling for Hird to resign or be sacked if all The Age had was Dank's word that this stuff was going on?
Sorry, I just have a hard time imagining The Age printing a story with the headline "Hird injected drugs" unless they were very sure it would stand up to legal scrutiny.

I think it's more likely they've finally been able to confirm the allegations from multiple sources. Ex-players & officials probably, maybe insiders at ASADA too.

Dank seems much more believable than anything coming out of Essendon. Dank makes specific detailed claims but everything coming from Essendon is vague denials and we don't really know.

Also the article says ASADA corroborates what Dank is saying (except the part about ASADA signing off on AOD9604).
