Embarrassing. Parents of the draft kids wont want their 17 year olds going to Essendon.
And why would any kid wanna go to WC now ?

It’ll take em 5 years to get back on track if you’re lucky

That club is doomed until they clean up their off field power struggles and clean house. Appointing Hird will only give strength to the current toxic regime in Sheedy and co. They’ll waste another ten years with their heads buried in the sand, telling themselves that they are on the right track and stuff the outside opinion. God help us in the unlikely event that they are proven right though.

It’s delicious. I hope he gets the gig. Sport is way more interesting when there is a villian involved in the storyline.

Isn’t the weirdest part that Essendon INVITED a guy with an awful coaching record who hasn't coached in almost 10 years to interview.

What kind of process is this?
No one else applied. Ross the Boss told them they were having a Toss when they asked him to go through their process and I think that was the most receptive response they got.

During the process it would be a good idea to prove that McVeigh ignored every suggestion that he made.

Most assistants come from a successful club. The Giants player talent and where they finished?

Hird might actually be the only candidate apply. Board is a shambles and club in tatters. Look I don’t love the idea of Hird coaching again, but what other posters refuse to consider is that Hird might well be the only candidate left standing.

The AFL cleared him to coach years ago. Whether that is right or wrong has been done to death. He's entitled to put his hand up as he pleases.

Having said that, it would be utter madness for the EFC to select him as coach. After what they went through, I would have thought the club would simply elect to move on permanently.

For this to play out the way it has in the media, Hird has the job. He wouldn't do this if he didn't know already. IMO.

Was delusional all through the drugs saga, never taking any responsibility for anything that happened. He "just trusted two bad people" it seems. Still deluding himself. Who engaged them? What was the brief given to those two? And he just remained at arms length throughout? Spare me.
Hope he gets the gig and leads the club further into the mire.

Also he proved last time he was willing to throw his own team and players under the bus and put them through hell rather than admit fault.
