He didn't back down from Dixon and that guy ragdolled Gibbo and brand, but I'd prefer him to hurt them on the scoreboard
Until he delivers some hurt, I think he's going to attract some attention. Increasingly so. Would be high on the pissant hero brigades (Norths) radar.

I see him as very similar to Doc in that he's a tough, hard at it young turk. Doc was once the new kid on the block in our backline, and he was regularly targetted for his share of bumps and knocks, really physically tested. He has shown he quite likes it and is more than happy to respond with punishing body contact if need be. The opposition would be wary of his presence I reckon, but as yet, not of Sicilys. Has shown he has aggression, but hasn't had to deliver on it yet. Is it too late in the season to go making that sort of name for himself though?

They worry about him kicking goals if targeting him puts him of they will if it fires him up then they won't time to find out

Further to my post no. 89 in this thread I have found out he is the great great grandson of John Sicily. Contacted distant relative of him on Ancestry who's wife is descendant of John's sister.
John had quite a colouful history here and in WA. Found a photo of him with the Fremante premiership team of 1896. Played with North 1893-96 and 1897-1900.
Clearly James should be at North. Clear him now!!
I believe the sicily name comes from his stepdad anyway, so not a blood relative.

Yeah theres an element of that and I hope he responds with the boot. Regardless, I think he puts his hand up and asks for extra attention in a way that Gunston and TOB dont. Gunston just doesn't get sucked in, he remains so focussed and doesn't buy in. TOB hasnt drawn the attention (respect?) of the opposition yet as hes still playing under the radar.
I don't think it's in Sics nature to step away from a challenge like Gunston though, and as such he's going to have to deal with niggling pissants. Dammit, If only he could put a few down in some old school, on field justice, bush footy type way .... but finals and all that. ;)

Some compare him to Dermie. I can see some similarities but not sure if Sicily has the mongrel Dermie had. Yes it's a different era, but like Lewis and Hodge, I'm waiting for the day when he can assert himself on the field (even if it means a suspension) but just to show he's out there to play hard by pushing the boundaries. Not saying deliberately belt someone but do those hard bumps and tackles that has the opponent hear footsteps. I think he's got that in him but requires more bulking up. Give him another preseason or 2 then watch out.

So this is a young Van Gough. Remind you of someone?

Van Gogh. Sorry. :cool::p

Second time this week I've come across Van Gogh.

1st time was in talking about the guitar player dude in Van Halen . You know .... Eddie ....? .... Eddie ...? .... Eddie Van something ..... Eddie Van Gogh! Yeah that's him. Hmmm. OK, near enough I spose.o_O

Freaking uncanny resemblance in that picture.

Just had a random thought, can Sis play midfield? Would be interesting to try him in the middle...he did play there as a junior so he could be a tall mid who can go forward for us, ala bont?

Still having an amazing year but as expected for a young bloke in his first proper season at the rope level consistency is the key.

Can you imagine how scary Sicily will be once he fills out a bit and becomes a consistent contributer week in week out.

We will have a beast on our hands!!

His recent form has a lot to do with the work clubs are putting into him.

His form this year has been very good though, for such a young player who's been in key roles.

He now has to find ways to beat these opponents.

Is slow by decision & hates to pressure an opponent with the ball. I'd hope not.

How does he become a regular contributor, week in / week out?

He is fantastic when he gets a clear run at the contested mark, but only when he's unencumbered for 5m leading into it. Getting a clear run to drift across in front of a contest can only come 2/3 times a week at best.

He offers nothing when he doesn't have the ball. As a comparison, Hale was far better without the ball.

I don't see that Sicily becomes a consistent contributor. I don't see the tools for it.
