Well if he was getting protected as much as that weak flopping dog lamb maybe he wouldn't have been pinged fr for 7 frees.

These blooz flogs are celebrating this win like a prelim final.

Schmook's article on the AFL site suggests he hasn't got a real grip on the English language also. In an article he writes Jed Lamb was pestering the young Hawk. Pests pester, and when they do you whack them, and that stops the pestering, buy the umpires didn't agree with Sicily doing that, so free to Lamb.

Now, Nathan the word you were looking for was interfering, and if the umpires were doing their job diligently, hat would have been a free the other way.t

A good time to reassure Sicily we still value him, but we may have signed him for slightly less than he may have asked for a week ago!

Good signing for the club, AND good timing. :thumbsu:
Do you really think he went to the club with his tail between his legs on tuesday morning & said "yeah you are right, I'm not worth what I was asking last week, I played 1 crap game so I'll accept what you offered" ?

I don't.

Robert Walls was a protected species. He was a very good player but always a darling of the Umpires. Coaching career was so so.

I wish I could dig up the interview on some TV show which featured an interview between Sheedy and Walls. The discussion was mostly about each others coaching careers. Sheedy a very very successful coach against walls a so so coach.

Walls was raving on about how good he was so Sheedy went to the heart of the matter and quite pointedly highlighted Wall's mostly unsuccessful career. Walls indignantly responded that Sheedy was lucky in that he always had good teams to coach whereas he (Walls) coached poor quality teams such as Fitzroy. Sheedy kept niggling him. Ultimately Walls went to water when it became clear to all that Sheedy had him cornered and demonstrated that his (Walls) personality was nowhere near as strong as Sheedy.

We all live in a glass house and should be careful who we throw rocks at. Some people have long memories.

I stress again that Walls was a very good CHF but not in the same stratosphere as Royce Hart. I personally would rather have a genuine strong personality like Dermy in my side. Dermy was also a better player.

One of my mates during the 1970's was a Tiger supporter, who reckoned that Walls was a front runner, who just couldn't win a contest. When Carlton were under the pump, Walls would disappear, he couldn't get near the ball; but when their midfield were on top, Walls was out there taking marks, kicking goals.

And the only premiership Walls coached was when the Carlton brown paper bags were flowing interstate and bought all the best players around.

I developed a genuine disdain for Walls because of my mate, and still carry that now!

;)

So he was the Luke Parker of days gone by then ??

He may well have called his manager and said "Tell Carlton to stick their offer up their arse! Im not playing with that Lamb campaigner" though.

Love the news! Re-signing Sicily was my biggest worry for the offseason. We wouldn't have had our mini revival without him. He'll get tagged and niggled but long term he'll learn from it. Mentally he's a conpetitor and a winner. Very excited to have him extended.

Sicily's 'problems' are directly proportional to how quickly he's gone from cameo efforts to fully time A grader.

Growing pains.

Contract signed. Next year he'll have Birchall, Frawley and Stratton around him (minus Hodge) so there's going to be a lot more senior support in terms of workload spread.

This is good news. We're on the right track.

Be interesting to see if he reacts to them in the same way he has to Mitchell and Doc - I'm all for white line fever but you also have to know how to manage it

I don't think he would have an inkling to suggest it to his manager, let alone the club. And what kind of a club would be prepared to change a proposed contract nased on one game?

It would be interesting to know how Ross Lyon, Chris Scott, Brad Scott etc would have handled Sicilys behaviour on Saturday.
This is where Clarko is at his best - left him in defence to teach him a lesson, no screaming and shouting - I'm sure the lad would have been embarrassed by the way he behaved on Saturday.
Apart from this, the kid has great potential and he is in the hands of the best manager of people/coach in the modern era.

I agree with this way of teaching, especially when you know you aren't a realistic chance of going deep into Sept.

Others will put it down as Clarko being stubborn & not willing to admit he's wrong
