As Thrawn would say about Jonathon Brown, he needs to put together a whole season to be rated.
If I were being hypercritical, I'd say his major failing lies in his lack of flexibiity in his upper body. He needs to loosen up a little. I doubt, at this stage, he'll be able to make a consistent contribution at CHF, goalwise. It would be good if he were able to play in that position and reach more contests. I feel this will be his strength as a forward.
As a ruckman, he still doesn't take enough marks, but these days, not many do. It is significant that at the end of last season, most of the top ruckmen in the competition rated him their most difficult opponent.This is his real strength. Over the past few years he has learnt to always make a contest at every a ball-up or throw-in. I attribute this to 'Crackers' Keating's and to Shaun Rehn's affect on his development.
It would surprise me if he ever won a Brownlow. He will probably play a game deserving of a Norm Smith Medal in a winning GF team. That's how important a winning ruckman is in a premiership team. Just ask Allan Jeans. What a pity the Norm Smith will probably never be won by a ruckman, given Keating couldn't win one.
Edit: It could surely be argued that Rhen had more influence than anyone else on the ground the outcome of at least one GF. BTW, Jeans said he hadn't seen any team win a GF without a dominant ruckman for thirty years.

He's a great competitor, but his crash n bash style leaves him susceptible to injury.

Very,very good player,just what collingwood needs in the ruck.Yes,jamie charmen,chris byran and josh fraser.We want him .By the way isn't he out of contract at the end of 2007? If he is collingwood should make a big play for him,especially,since the brissie lions,have got a few ruckman on their list,me thinks they want to bring,wood and leuemberger through the ranks soon,so jamie may look for greener pastures next year ? Yes, i can see him now in a balck and white jumper !

Jamie hadn't played a game for 7 weeks and was clearly not match fit. But yeah Hamish taught him and Wood a lesson.

Charman is in our top 5 best players and is a Queenslander. The club will retain him.
If any ruckman gets shaken loose, it is likely to be Beau McDonald.

Beau isn't going anywhere. Will only improve as the season goes on after a long absence after injury.
I must say,the Brissie Lions are slowly building a very good side.A good blend of youth and experience will see the lions a top 4 side in a year or two..
By the way ,if we can't have Charman,we'll take Mcdonald.

Why do people think that a top 5 player at our team, our #1 ruckman in his mid 20s is going to get traded when our next ruckmen are way too inexperienced/young or aging????!!!!!!
It is like saying that WCE are going to trade Cox, or Essendon are going to trade Hille, etc!

Oh sorry, is that what everybody has been suggesting? Oh well i must apologise, i hadn't heard that a brisbane born and bread player who is highly rated at the club - who made him as a player seeing as he came to the club as a Volleyball player who had very little afl experience, when he has a very settled business in brisbane....wanted to walk away and head to melbourne for....some reason.

Good you think that every comment is too you specifically, my comments were about the people (collingwood, essendon, st kilda, etc) who keep writing saying what do you we need to trade for charman, heres what we would offer etc!

How do I know this, well his girlfriend is my girlfriend's sister & he has accepted an offer from the pies, but its up tp Brisbane to deal.
Brisbane will be forced to deal, as he will just walk out and head to a Melbourne club via pre season draft.
Me think Chris Egan & 3 rd pick will get the deal done.
