Some idiot gave Reid two more years a couple of months back... and the same moron (possibly) stitched us up by originally giving Wells a 3 year deal. That cripple has another year to run...
Yes name calling, that works the argument.

:p

I think you need to check your facts on Reid’s contract extension

Good news. Definitely adds another dimension to our forward line when up and running.
Let him recover properly and hopefully get a full pre-season into him to be cherry ripe for round 1 2019.

If we can add Elliott to DeGoey, Stephenson, Hoskin-Elliott and Thomas up forward it's going to cause the opposition plenty of headaches.

We haven't even seen what the ceiling is for Elliott yet given injury first struck him down right at the beginning of what would have been the start of his peak years as a footballer.

Let's hope we can get him healthy as adding him to our current forward mix and possibly Lynch should make our forward line an unstoppable force in 2019.

The silver lining here is that if he was hitting his peak we would have to pay an arm and a leg and probably lose other key players or him. Fingers crossed we get him for peanuts next year and he plays like royalty! Then give him what his worth at the end of next year when we can clear out the likes of Reid and Wells.

What would you suggest?

If I were Ned Guy and Geoff Walsh respectively I would have three years on the table and I would be scouring the globe for the best HP people money can buy. Three years on the money he’d warrant with his injury history will be an absolute bargain in 24 months time, IMO.

Elliott has AA football in him still and needs full training loads that’s all. I don’t believe he has a Reidesque body that isn’t up to professional sport and his issues are part bad luck part bad management. Of all the guys that have struggled the past 3 years he’s the one that I think we can afford to carry most because we have other options and he’s clearly the most talented.

We were irresponsible enough only 18 months ago to give three years to a 32yo Wells at least with Elliott the positives are obvious. I should elaborate I believe a 1 year contract offer tells him we think he’s cooked!

I think 1 year works for both parties. We reduce risk if he is broken, and he gets a better contract next year if body holds up. Knowing what the right strategy should be will only be known in hindsight.

This might be seen as a risk for Elliott. Might end up a two year deal.

An alternate view is that both parties agree that one year on ok money with some incentives is a fairer deal for both rather than 3 years on a more incentivised less money per annum deal. If 2019 is a bust, he still probably gets some sort of RFA deal for 2020 on. If 2019 goes well, they do a new long term bigger deal.

Not a major thing, but Wells was 31 when he signed with us in Oct 16.

Great news. Be a minimum 2 years on something around $400k you'd reckon. If he hits the ground running in 2019 that would be a bargain.

What makes you think either of those two would know how to find people like that, Scodog? Walsh conducted a review into the football department last year; if he didn't identify then the issues with the medical department, then he either A)has no clue, or B)is confident he has the right people.

By the way, the answer is A.

What are these issues with the medical department? Are they cutting ACL's or something?
