If Jesse's ankle is good - as I have been told - he should be able to get a pre-season worth of running in and move straight into the midfield next year.

How huge is that?

When is the intra-club match?

This Sunday at Barter Card Oval in Port Melbourne Zebs!

The next one involving JWS however will probably be in Feb. I've been told the same, re. his ankle, and I can't wait for him to be unleashed. We sorely missed his drive this year, especially considering he was earmarked for a midfield role pre season.
Bring on '09!

And then there is Hamish. I reckon those two games at the end of the year would have really opened his eyes as to how hard it is to compete if you don't have unbelievable fitness. I am tipping a huge pre-season from H.

McIntosh and Smith are such huge additions next year.

They are, for sure. Jolly, of all people, tore us apart in the second half up there at Great White Elephant Stadium. He (a fully fit H) was sorely missed.

Geez, hanging out already, Zebra? :)

Seriously though, I hope by the end of pre season his legs are substantially bigger than they have been in the past. I reckon that's half his problem.

And you know something that hasn't been commented on... the extra boundary umpires are what did us in with the Port Adelaide game and the Sydney game. We were absolutely pantsed in boundary throw ins in defensive 50, giving up many goals in both games. And I'd say a major factor in that was we had no back up tall in defence who could take a boundary throw in whereas at least in the forward half we had Haley or Thommo. So by the time Drew got to the contest, he was too buggered to really be any chance.

But why did that only happen in those two games? We weren't missing any defensive talls in those games. I agree that we were pantsed in defensive stoppages, but I'd say the inside mids were mostly to blame for that.

Defensive talls? Other than the underweight (for ruckwork) Hansen vlad, who would they be? We don't have any ATM. Certainly none capable of fulfilling both roles anyway. I reckon pharro's point is a good one, in that the 4 umpires exacerbated our lack of Hamish, and someone else down back to ruck in the defensive 50.

We had an undersized ruckman playing the position basically by himself up against two good tap ruckman and a hard as **** midfield who thrive on contested situations. Added to that the weather and the amount of stoppages as a result, and what I wrote in the lead up to the game came to pass. We got smashed around the footy.

Well that's easy to say with the benefit of hindsight.

Indeed.

BTW, not really having a go at the selection decisions. It was an attacking move if anything, to back Drew in against that mob and crossing our fingers he could get it done. It was more to do with what we lack through the middle and Simpson and Harro's form going in. All they had to do was sit on Wells and Boomer and we just had no midfield.

Hi guys! Sorry to jump in. I saw the threads heading & thought I'd pass on something that I've heard.

The Hawks are apparently VERY keen on Jesse Smith with his dad being at the club.

From not a bad source. Could be on the money as they have a few players stuck in the twos that would get a game elsewhere. Perhaps Boyle.

We'll see!
Cheers!

What's a few players stuck in the twos got to do with Jesse Smith?

Well if we can get Boyle for him, bloody hell. Where do we sign? Who else do we need to chuck in?

This keeps kicking around. Can we get Ross back to Arden St to put a stop to it? (Although it won't take away the fact Jesse pantsed the Hawks in the finals, which I'm sure made quite an impression too.)

Hope it's a better source than the one Jake Niall used when he wrote this story a few weeks back, saying JWS was out of contract. He had already re-signed with North.

Kirk's second half was unbelievable.

Sounds like one of Caro's thources.

I am all for the running but keep him away from the army training.

He has no interest in leaving North!!!
