JMac emergency?

Certainly needs to improve on last years effort at the top level if he is even to make the cut. It makes you wonder about our midfield depth if he is there. Having said that, I think our strength is in our midfield rotations moreso than depth. We lose a pendlebury, Swan or Didak and we cant replace them. But very few teams could.

I seriously doubt he'll play and that Mick has any intentions of playing him. If there is a midfielder under an injury cloud I'd predict that Lockyer comes in. I'm thinking maybe Mick just put him in as emergency to give him some sort of GF experience, but without playing. Don't the emergencies warm up and run out with the team before the game?

:thumbsu: hopefully this is the most likely explanation.

He is our next best performed midfielder that isn't in the side and has played as recently as round 22, it's pretty self explanatory to be honest.

Just give St.Kilda the cup now!

Bookmarked, if anyone else wants to add themselves to the list of people that think this kid is a spud, just speak up now.
I wouldn't want you to miss out on being publicly shamed and ridiculed in a year or two :)

I don't think people are making predictions on what he will become, just that it is stupid to have him listed as an emergency for a damn Grand Final when the bloke has not shown much. Not quite his fault, with the few injuries (hammy, etc.) he has picked up this year, but I would rather Lockyer or even a lame Davis or non-matchfit Medhurst in instead of JMac. Hopefully MM is just giving him some experience.

I am thinking that McCarthy gives us more cover for our midfield in the event that one of them can't get up. He is purely cover but he is our next best midfielder outside the 22. I am still nervous one of Ball, Pendles & Didak will not be right. St Kilda will have the same troubles with sore bodies battling the clock.

McCarthy is not as bad as everyone is saying. Certainly not best 22, but I think he can hold his own in tight contested situations, its on the spread and his use of the ball thats holding him back. There is a lot of fight in the kid though and we may need this attitude if he gets a chance.

We have clearly decided that we do not require a permanent small forward. Last year everyone was raving about our forward line full of Davis, Medhurst, Dick. They have all been effectively been replaced by rotating midfielders.

Out of Medders, Tarks, Davis, McCarthy and Presti, which player would you most want playing on the ball if Pendles got a severe case of the trots again?

I'd agree that he is a way away off regular senior selection, but he has played some good games on the ball in the VFL. As a genuine inside midfielder no less.

If he's been training well and is fit, then it's not an unreasonable security.

It took way to long but common sense has finally prevailed in this thread.

The kid is an emergency, going on conspiracy theories that it means he will be picked is crazy. As others have mentioned if we have no intention of playing Davis why would we name him an emergency. As Fig, Invig and others have put he is the best performed and most ready midfielder we have who is not in that side we have selected. So in the emergency case that we have a midfielder pull out we need one to be able to be slotted straight in. Especially considering that we are likely to have a few sore boys it makes sense that if a midfielder pulled out we would want a Jmac who can help out as an inside mid rather then a Tarks who is pretty much only going to play on the HFF.

FFS we had a guy named as an emergency in the 02 grand final who went on to be delisted by the end of 03 didn't we (King)

What a jk that was , was talked up as if he was going to be the difference in a GF for his first game and then sadly faded away.

J MAC wont play unless there is a major emergency to a Mid player, then he is the next mid i would want playing, makes sense but lets hope he isnt needed

on channel ten quarters' said that mick has told leon to bring his gear to the game.. but he's not emergency? surely they wouldnt name a non-emergency in the gf

However, the 29-year-old was upbeat at training on Friday morning and Malthouse said Davis would take his bags to the MCG on Saturday, adding that "strange things happen.

"Right now we're very satisfied with the 25 we picked, but the lads that have been training for the four weeks, as far as I'm concerned they take their bags along just in case," Malthouse said from the Westpac Centre on Friday.

That's exactly what was said, it's clearly a huge what if, nothing more.

Not sure of the value of trying to pull off a surprise like that but wouldn't imagine a 10k fine will put them off.

Maybe Blair a late replacement for Leon :)

Good point however it would only because he is the last of the team to have any game time over the last 4 weeks. words from the camp are pendles and Didak are both 80%. Personally Davis should have been left in the emergency for the event that we lose a midfielder... He did play a midfield role last year but like i mentioned in my previous has to be injured or incapsitated. Either way i think we should be ok with this as all the boys trained.

Apparently Pendlebury was moving beautifully at training today and dominated the midfield drills.

The guy I quoted certainly was, he has potted him multiple times since being named as an emergency.

Then there are threads like this on other Collingwood boards;

Dont all the players bring their stuff to the game anyway?

FOr those who are fretting ove rPendles, he'll be fine, isn't injured, just had a bad case of gastro last week, the night before the game which was easy fixed! Will be firing o go. As for Swan, Ball and the rest, don't know much but should be ready!
