How would you classify him as a player? I can admit I was one of the knockers when things weren't going right but just lately I've realised how invaluable his clearances are. Superb in traffic. I couldn't wait for him to come back into the team. Of course his poor skills by foot let him down but he more than makes this up by his clearances and superb in and under handballing ability. Turning into one of my favourite players. Keep it up Jobe!

I'm not sure he would get a game in every team in the league but to us his work around the stoppages is fantastic. His skills (foot in particular) can sometimes come unstuck but you have to remember that he gets all his footy in contested situations so he isn't going to be 100% effective. We just need him to play a little more on instinct as he seems to make good decisions then. Oh yeah and cut his feet off, that would make him about perfect.

Obviously his kicking is the thing that most people attack, which at times isnt the best.

I believe when he doesn't think about his kicks, just kicks it they are not to bad, its when he starts thinking about the kick before he kicks it that things can go wrong.

We all know Watson has problems with his kicking, but he's gotta be top five for his clearance work in the AFL. This makes him invaluable, particularly with our younger players and our excellent outside players in Lovett, Stanton and Reimers. We were getting smashed in this area when he was out and his re-addition to the team and our form turaround is more than a coincidence.

Keep it up Jobe-one-konebi!!

20th in the league for centre clearances. i think he is extremely over rated by essendon fans. he is valuable to us because we have a lack of in and under ball winning players, but he wouldn't get a game at many of the top 8 clubs where it is required that you are not only able to get the ball but also have the skills to find a team mate.

He's missed a few games. Where is he if you average it out per game?

He just needs some confidence in his kicking, but it would be very hard getting this back after all the attention he's copped.

Good to see the Bombers start to win centre clearances again, and beat sides at stoppages, I haven't seen that for a long time.

Wonder if it's due to blokes like lonergan watson mcveigh stanton myers and riemers. Or if it's due to big Hilley's influence on games.

For what is worth he is ranked 20 in overall clearances however his average per game is in the top ten (he actually has more per game than Judd).

The problem is his clanger to clearance ratio is quite high compared to the other ten players in the top 10 average clearances per game. Plus his disposal efficiency is well below the rest only Kerr and Black have worse efficiencies rankings and you could argue that they get a lot more attention than Jobe.

I still rate him though. As an Essendon player, still not sure he would make it into a few other teams in the league but I can think of about 7 or 8 teams that would be happy to have him in the rotation.

I'd say it's a mixture of both but saying that Hille has been a monster in the last coouple of weeks and that just so happens to coincide with us winning the clearances, go Hille:thumbsu:

I am, and always have been a huge fan of Jobe. I don't think that Sheedy showed him enough respect and I think that affected his development. (Everyone makes mistakes though)

We are a much better team with Jobe in and under. Now with some others stepping up to help him and working hard to get into space to clear and block for him his effectiveness will go up.

I just love the guy. I love guts and he has them in spades.

Watson is the exact sort of player Sydney would recruit and Roosy would play him in a role that suits him and the team. We should do the same. He is a clearance king and he should be told to only kick if need be, otherwise give it off to a better option.

The thing is, you can't teach someone to be a clearance player. You either are or you are not. Let's just hope his foot skills improve with a bit more gametime and confidence.

He frustrates me, he has so much potential. Yes he gets the hard ball gets but his clangers are too high. “If” he could build his confidence he “could” be a great. He frustrates the hell outta me.:(

Watson is brilliant with getting the contested ball and has brilliant vision and poise but lets himself down with either poor disposal (particularly by foot) or trying to be too clever or cute. This area must improve if he and the Bombers as a partnership are to move further up the ladder, you cannot have a player of Watson's pace (or lack there of) not having sublime skills to compensate for his inadeqacies.

Yes his disposal can sometimes be crap BUT his disposal is usually the hard ball from under the pack or the fast get away.

His disposal usually goes back when he thinks about it. He usually thinks about it when he puts his head up there's no option to go to. If other players don't present and he has to stall is that his fault?

Gun. One of the most important players in our team. Top5 easily.

That's a matter of opinion, more often than not he handpasses at the feet of his teammates when they're waiting for him to flick it out. His disposal is mostly crap... his kicking is always crap, not sometimes crap, is crap! He really could become a quality midfielder but I don't think he's there at all yet. He does some special things but he also coughs it up a hell of a lot.

He ranks #1 in the comp in 1st poss per game, but he has not been as good at getting clearancesthis year than last year imo, still has alot of improvement left in him.

Severly underrated in how good his clearance work is.

Over the past 2 weeks he's got his hands on the ball in the center more than Priddis, Judd, Murphy, Stevens and was a step ahead of anyone.

Averaging 68% disposal efficiency and 5.1 clearances a game this year.

Judd is on 69% and 4.45 clearances a game this year.

I think he is our most important midfielder. Even more so than McVeigh. Even if he is having one of those days when he keeps turning it over, we just seem to struggle to get our hands on it when he isnt in there. One of the better handballers in the league IMO
