A good friend of mine who is coming aboard BF shortly as disel95,lives in Darwin and has been watching the NTFL very closely for many years. He assures me that we have picked up a player who if he can have a strong pre-season can start round 1 in the BP or HBF.He definately has the size and speed to do so and the grunt that we lack.He tells me that Anderson reminds him of Andrew McKay.

It's going to be great to have a player who's a genuine defender in the backline, with the ability to shutdown guys like Didak, O'Keefe, O'Loughlin, Nathan Brown and those type of quick medium forwards that have caused us massive trouble over the past few years. I think there's a bad trend in the AFL where every defender is a wannabe midfielder. I'm sure Anderson could be a good tagger or genuine midfielder, but I'd like to see him settled into a defensive role.

Maybe a better version on Andrew Carrazzo!?

IMO he will be a backflanker for most of his career with little stints tagging someone on ball.

5 sounds about right. Maybe more depending on injuries obviously.

Dont get too carried away, Joe has a long way to go, has a good work ethic but still needs a lot of work on his skills to be a good AFL player.

Be very surprised if he gets a game this year.

I have probably seen him play every senior game in Darwin.

Since the Championships finished he has been working on his kicking a lot. He did have help with his kicking technique from Collingwood.

I would not be surprised to see him playing next year given the amount of youth Carlton will have and his good performances against bigger bodies in the NTFL over the last couple seasons.

The majority of players in the TAC cup would be bigger and fitter than a lot of the players in Darwin.

I wish him the best of luck he will give it his best shot.

I think he could play some senior footy in 2007. Very very happy we picked him up in the ND. :thumbsu:

Well if Darwin footy's anything like it is here in Cairns then the u18 TAC cup players wouldn't be half the size of some of the blokes running around.

...and I know quite a few of the boys who play here scoot off to play in the NT in the off season, so it couln't be too different.

Sounds like a pretty down to earth bloke by the sounds of it. Really looking forward to seeing this guy play.

Joe Anderson is a "diabolical kick" according to one high profile recruiting manager.

The recruitment guru was asked from disgruntled fans why he didn't pick up Anderson, he replied, "I like Joe Anderson as a player. He is quick has a good engine and, like Isaac, has a great character. He is however a diabolical kick. In the end this was probably the determining factor in us not drafting him. If he could kick he would have been a top 30 selection."

The recruiting manager and his club ended up picking up another aboriginal player from the NT with his clubs pick 62.

Well, hopefully Joe can improve his kicking and come back and hurt the Demons. I like him as a player, saw him in the carnival and think he'll be alright.

I don't know what it is about this kid, but I have a good feeling about him. In fact, the same type of feeling I had when Ratten started with us.

He'll be good for us, mark my words. :)

If after the mid-season break we're out of finals contention I'm sure we'll see Pagan put a game or two or three into most of our recruits to see how they've progressed.

It's going to be great to see some success in the very near future!

Not too much of a gamble at #67 you would think. Just needs to spend a bit of time with Craig Bradley, and i'm sure his kicking will keep on improving over the next 12 months or so.

I don't know if people checked out the Q and A with a member of Carlton's recruiting team (the link was posted a week or so back.) But in that he explains that quite a lot of draftees are poor kicks before they get to AFL clubs and that only Gibbs and a couple others could truly be labelled 'silky' disposers of the ball in this draft.

The most obvious one that comes to mind is Danyle Pearce. His kicking was truly 'diabolical,' but now he's probably in the top 5 best users of the ball at Port. It's much of the reason he fell to the rookie draft besides having some of the best Draft Camp results in the history of the D.C. It's all due to the lack of system in junior and regional football, that doesn't lend itself to precision possession.

IIRC i read somewhere that Joe worked really hard on his kicking since the champs, and that he worked really hard to get himself right for DC. These are the guys i am happy to draft late, guys with the tools to make it, but also with the right attitude to really work hard at their game. If he gets his kicking right he could be the steal of the draft.
