John Butcher?

Theres no way port would only accept one first round pick, we may as well trade aggresively if we want him...
People should stop hanging there hats on Cook being a star, just cuz we took him doesnt mean he will 100% make it

And why has Butcher with one games experience doubled in value? yeah he was rated 2 at one stage by some, then he got injured, kicked about 2.11 in a grandfinal for Maffra, and didnt debut in the worst team in the league for 2 season (yes partially due to injury)

The picks you put fourth would be roughly 10-12 and 14-18 when he went at 8-9 in the draft.........

And yes i do rate Cook, he can kick for starters, no there isnt a guarantee he will make it but i think so, and if we can develop him into the player we need instead of recruiting Butcher then going by your logic we would have an extra 2 first round selections, in the 2012 "super draft" no less

Edit - Scully is staying so we will only have 1 first rounder to trade with anyway

You would think that Port would be doing everything in their power to keep a guy like Butcher at the club. He is a terrific prospect and could be anything with a full pre-season under his belt. He is just the player we need but I don't think we can realistically land him and, if he were to ask for a trade back to Vic, then Port would play major hard ball with any club that is interested.

I'm also beginning to think JTR is STING2's bastard son... or something like that...

were hoping to get two first round picks for Scully, and you want to give them up for Butcher,:rolleyes:come on mate, you had long day at uni pup, sit back and have a think about what you just posted.

I'm with you JTR on this one. Ridiculous trades being posted ATM. AND HE CAN'T KICK!!!!! Last thing we need right now.

I think a couple of people have missed the point i was trying to make, im not saying Butcher is worth 2 First round picks, im not saying Port would do the deal

Im saying that if Melbournes List management looks at him, and says yes thats the player we need at full forward, then we should aggresively pursue him

They wont accept 1 first round pick, or any combo of a 1st rounder and a 2nd/3rd/4th etc , i cant see any melbourne players being interested in moving to port, so the first 2 picks are our only option

Butcher cant kick? Neither can Nick Riewoldt

So he isnt worth 2 first round picks, but thats the only realistic way we can land him......

Why are we even discussing this then?

If Butcher walks they will accept pick 10ish or nothing

Butcher will be a gun. Kicking can be fixed. Chocco said on draft day when asked about Butcher's kicking that Tredrea couldn't kick and we easily fixed that and he reckoned Butcher will be another easy fix. With the right kicking coach I dont see this as a problem.

We also can trade whoever we want, we don't need their permission. Did Woewodin want to leave Melbourne? Did Travis Johnstone want to go to Brisbane? We can trade any player on our list to wherever we want.

Its not what the club wants its what it can get, Butcher is out of contract at end of season he can elect to go into the draft and get picked up anywhere. If he wants to go to a specific club then a deal would have to be done. Like Luke Ball he wanted to go to the Pies but a deal couldnt be done - he elected to go into the draft and no body picked him up.

Melbourne could tell him to put $1mill of his head and go into the pre season pretty easy or PA could ask for a player, pick or a combination of the two.

Also to do this he must want to come to the Dee's if he didnt its pretty pointless.

PA will go high other clubs will go low .. just need to find a win win ..

Mostly due to injury is the correct answer.... played almost no footy last year because Port wanted to get his back injury sorted, and was ready to debut about 8 or 9 weeks ago, but tweaked a hammy or similar, so has taken a while to get over that and get a couple games under his belt.

The last thing Port would be doing is shopping Butcher around.... and he hasn't made any indication that he wants out... in fact hes come out today and said he really enjoys Adelaide.

For sure mate, i know PA wouldnt dream of selling Butcher, you dont sell your best 10 year KPF's,

I was more Bulking at the suggesting of 2 first rounders, i would pay one and a bit but 2 seems alot to me, especially when for what ever reason, obviously been severely hampered by injury he has played 1 AFL match.....

And yes 1 first rounder and a third isnt going to come close to satifying Port, in any way,

Clubs dont meet terms on players such as this

Why the hell does Taylor Walker's name keep coming up?! He hasn't been able to command a spot in a shit Crows line-up FFS. As if we need another medium forward.. G-SUS.

How about we try to fill a gaping hole in our team, a decent small forward.

We dont need a small forward, because tapscott will go forward eventually and im sure maric will make it (wonaemmiri is young enough as well), i reckon small forwards take just as long to develop as the talls on some occasions

Exactly right.

Some hit the ground running, others don't.

Well in the words of the great Ron Burgundy, 'agree to disagree'. I reckon we badly need a small forward and I don't reckon Tapscott, Maric or Wonna fit the bill. Maric and Wonna are too slow and Tapscott does not look like a natural forward. The only one I can see on our list is Lawrence and he doesn't seem to be doing anything at Casey.

It helps when you have a predictable fwd line, because they no were the kicks coming in and they can crumb accordingly, someone like maric has to guess where the footys getting kicked so he is gonna be out of position quite often, as our forward line becomes mores settled the crumbers will settle

You do realise when we drafted Tapscott he was a HFF for South Australia in the national carnival

Yeh, I agree with that as well ng69.

Having played as a crumber a couple of times it's very hard to impact a contest when the ball is coming in all over the place.

If you know that a teammate will either hit up a lead or go long to the 'hotspot' it makes it a lot easier.

Ive done it meself as well, is impossible when the kickin inside 50 is random cause you basically have to guess were to run an stand, and if its not your day you can end up hardly goin near it

Would rather go after Jaeger O'Meara than Butcher.

Unless we can get Butcher or Talia at a cheaper price.
