Agree Abbott was worse, but I recon in the context of where Australia is today, Howard did worse given the great hand he was dealt

That is a good point. That last term set a horrible precedent and set us on a bad path. I was a member at the time and we were stunned at some changes although Abbott did worse

Sadly it's often the lot of the rank-and-file Party members to look on in disillusionment at the factional infighting and the power-broking and the subsequent strange direction the winning faction might steer the Party toward.
Australia had it in spades from both major parties. Rudd-Gillard-Rudd-Abbott-Turnbull-Morrison.

This is a classic Howard legacy. Once upon a time, welfare in this country was either in the form of public infrastructure and institutions, or payments to those who really needed it.
Then Howard saw it as a tool to buy votes. Middle class welfare is one of his big legacies, to the point where the punters out there kind of expect it now.
Whilst the current initiative is ostensibly targeted towards relieving the housing shortage, don't be fooled. There are many other ways that could be fixed. No, this is a flagrant attempt to buy the crucial outer suburban vote that the LNP are courting as well.
Johnny would be proud.

There's only two options here now as far as leading the country goes.
But minor parties still keep them in check at times. It's our only saving grace.

Middle class welfare gave us a structural deficit of 4%.
That extra money could built long term infrastructure ie Public housing.

Not defending Howard, who has done more to **** up Australia than anyone else, but the child abuse RC showed that there’s little difference between government and privately-run institutions when it comes to abuse.
