Traded Josh Bruce

Even in what has been a quieter year for Bruce he is still on track to manage 40 goals for the season, great effort considering he takes the best defender most week and continually gets rag dolled without notice from the umps. Can't wait to see Paddy, Skunk and the Bruce all playing a patch of games together, defences will be very scared.

Eight months ago they were parked deep inside 50 at the MCG, wrestling for position. Now, Josh Bruce and Nathan Brown go to work on each other every day in match simulation and it’s a test the St Kilda key forward relishes.

After years matched up on Sam Fisher and Sean Dempster at Linen House Centre, the arrival of the former Collingwood premiership full-back has provided Bruce with a fresh assignment.

And soon, the 24-year-old will face another recent key acquisition in versatile tall, Jake Carlisle, who is gradually being reintroduced back into the main group after hip surgery midyear.

“Browny’s going really well, I’m playing on him week-in, week-out. It’s really good for me because obviously he’s a really quality defender,” Bruce told reporters at a press conference on Wednesday.

Leadership appointment a 'privilege' says Bruce

Saints key forward Josh Bruce says he is looking forward to the responsibility of helping drive the club forward, after he was unveiled as one of three new inclusions in the 2017 leadership group on Tuesday night.

Bruce, 24, is at the business end of his fourth pre-season at Linen House Centre since crossing from Greater Western Sydney at the end of 2012.

The Canberran's elevation to the leadership group continues his rapid rise from a dour key defender to a goal kicking spearhead..

With the entire playing group voting in the leadership group, Bruce admits it’s a privilege to assume the responsibility from his peers.

Bruce has been a different player since he has come back into the seniors after a couple of games in the twos. He is taking good marks and looks more comfortable running around but still needs to get his confidence back in his kicking for goal.

A great goal by Bruce against North.

Battled extremely hard against Port , should have been awarded free kicks as he was constantly interfered with when trying to mark the ball in wet and slippery conditions. Unfortunately kicked 3 behinds when goals were so important. Not missing by much but still missing .

Maybe he is becoming like Roo used to be , using so much energy that he is exhausted when having a shot at goal .

He might not have kicked as many goals as a couple of years ago but there is no doubting that he gives a 100% every game . He might be suffering from over running like Roo used to and be exhausted by the time he shoots for goal .
