"I'm thinking as if I'm going to be here forever," Caddy said.

"If I think of wanting to go home all the time it'll affect my footy so I'm going in with a mindset of this is where I'm at and hopefully be here forever."

So, I read this as he's playing with an adjusted mindset in order to play his best, rather than that he has chosen to stay permanently. Fingers crossed.

Personally I'm happy with how things worked out for us not getting him. I wonder who would trade Kavanagh and Hooker for Caddy now (early days, and assuming that something similar was offered).

How can we rate kavanagh yet? He has done approx 4 weeks training!

So, tell me about this Josh Caddy fellow. Is he any good? Should we try to trade for him? What would we give up for him? This all needs to be analysed in more detail.

Kavanagh has just about all the ability and talent of Josh Caddy. Just not as ready made. They both have injury problems, Caddys came after his draft year. Ekav had problems the year leading upto the draft which caused him to slide from a top 6 spot to us at 19.

We may make an attempt again at the end of year for Caddy but I can't really think of a scenario where we will be successful if we are giving up our 1st round pick for Daniher (expected). We simply don't have players that have the trade value outside of our top 5 or so prospects and obviously we want to keep them. Basically we won't find any place where the benefits of getting Caddy will be matched by an acceptable level of cost in our situation.

If we were a team like Collingwood we could probably find a player with enough currency that we could afford to lose but right now our draft picks are worth more than most of the players on our list. Not too worried to be honest, happy to keep developing and retaining our existing players, we will shock a few teams this year and plenty of arrogant opposition supporters.

I guess that is open to interpretation on what value you place on players vs draft picks.

Actually it depends on what value GC place on our players vs draft picks and they have already shown that they don't have much of an interest in most of our players.

I've heard a couple of weeks ago from a source that he'll be definitely coming back to Melbourne at the end of the year. He is homesick big time and is out of contract at the end of the year.

Most people in the industry think that GC were not going to trade him unless they got over the odds. They were sending a message to their young list that even if you're worried about your dad that isn't enough reason to leave, if we feel you're required.

They asked for a deal that was never going to get done. If he wants to go at the end of this year again it wont be the same by them. Caddy, and Essendon, were pretty disappointed when it didn't get done but you can understand why they didn't do the trade. That said Hooker and pick 19, especially seeing Kavanagh slid so to 19, probably is paying overs for Caddy.

I'd like to echo the above sentiments and add that I have also heard that young Josh has indicated his desire to join Essendon in 2013.

Hopefully, the club can get it done.
