Not sure if it has been discussed and this isnt a rumor so thought I would put it up as a new thread, but what do people think of Josh Fraser? He cant get a game at Collingwood. Fraser will be 29 next year, so could be a decent gap filler for 2 years while Maric, Moran and Sellar develop as everyone knows rucks generally dont dominate until they are 26 or older. I doubt he would cost a lot as he isnt being used and seems to be 4th or 5th preferred ruck behind Jolly, Wood, Cloke and L Brown. Jolly is basically the same age so Frasers career at Collingwood as their number one ruck seems to be all but over.

Straight up...NO

But, how and where will they develop?

In the SANFL – does that happen anymore, don’t see that many mature age recruits walking out of the SANFL into the AFL.

If he was a second string ruckman? Maybe an idea we would look at if we were a genuine contender but Josh Frasier isn’t an A Grade ruckman and we're not a premiership threat for a few years. So why waste out time by having to recruit him, trade for him (overpaying mind you) and then having him gel with the group whist as the same time the team isn’t a top 4 chance.

Why not just persevere with Sellar, Maric, Moran or Griffin (if he stays) and let their development continue at the same time as the rest of the team.

Well the team structure wouldnt change. Fraser wouldnt be the lone ruckman we play. Would be Fraser + Maric / Sellar / Moran.

Was just a thought, that is all

I appreciate that and wasn’t having a go but i don’t believe the position we are in, it would be worth it.

I'm not a fan but I wouldn't say no straight away. Our ruck stocks are in an absolutely terrible state.

I'd at least enquire and see what we'd have to give up.

If we were going to trade for any established ruckmen we should target cox from west coast perhaps offer a package of griffen, van berlo and our pick from the fx for cox and ebert with natinui as there number 1 ruckmen and west coast down the bottom of the ladder this could be achievable

He can use the spare room at my house till he found a house

If he was available and we did not ask after him it would be incompetence of the highest order

Cox is a number 1 ruck with no one bar Nic Nat ready to come in. Would cost an arm an a leg to pry him from WC. Fraser is a decent ruck who is just excess baggage at the Pies, would be a much easier trade.

I'm not so sure they would want to much they are clearly in rebuilding mode and wouldn't you much rather cox then Fraser the trade would give them a back up to Nic Nat and if they stay down the lower half for a few years the GC pick would be very high for them seems like a good deal to me

He's no better than the rucks we have, and has maybe 2 seasons left in him, no point in even inquirin.

That he is with Collingwood, a club that would start from a first round pick and refuse to bargain below a second and player for a half-eaten bacon sandwich they found when clearing out Rocca's locker, makes the entire suggestion a non-starter.

What on earth does Frasier bring to an already struggling ruck division? He's at the same level as Maric.

I would argue that Fraser is below Maric

Prior to the recruitment of Jolly the Pies in the previous three seasons ranked last for hitouts and last for hitouts to advantage, and guess who was there #1 ruckman.......

this is why they have recruited Woods and Jolly in recent years, Fraser as a ruckman is an absolute Spud

IMO Fraser is not a AFL quality ruckman, so if he is not going to improve our ruck division why waste our time

yep, I wouldn't consider Fraser any more useful in Ruck then Maric, maybe a better forward and more mobile, but that's not what we are looking for!

Not sure how locked in Mark Jamar is at the demons but that is one we should definitely enquire about. SA boy so the lure of home would be there. And he is an absolute man mountain!

Cox leaving the Eagles has pretty much been shut down this week by Worsfold already!

I thought about this last night and I think we should fish around, as ou say our ruck stocks are crapola, Fraser is a genuine ruckman has a bit of arrogance would get at least 3 years out of him, well worth looking at IMO.

Highly questionable. Maric is a passable no.2 ruckman, and the rest are horrendous garbage.

Well yes, always a problem. Never hurts to ask though - if it's not in a range that suits us, then you walk away.

We really need to address the ruck situation soon - in some way. It's a real issue.

straight up NO.
yes, we have a ruck problem, but Josh Fraser is not the answer to our prayers.

Jamar recently signed new 2-year deal (keeping him at the Dees till end of 2012).

Fraser can play forward when resting, takes marks around the ground, good skills and has a good footy brain. Collingwood always play hardball when it comes to trades so they would want more than his current value.

So we would be recruiting yet another number two ruckman. Sure, he might be better at being a number two ruckman, but what's the point?

We need a number one.

Maric can play forward and back, puts 100% into all contests, is able to judge the ball fairly well, and has passable skills when it comes to a ruckman. Plus he's not 28, and hopefully after a complete season, he is able to continue to move forward. Frasier offers nothing more than our current ruck stocks in terms of helping the AFC move up the ladder next year.

I agree that we need a number one ruck man.
How many number one ruck men are out of contract? Not many if at all.
That's why we have to look at ruck men like Fraser, Jacobs, Minson and Wood.
If we can get another early draft pick maybe we can draft both a midfielder and a ruck with our 1st and 2 picks or we could try picking up a mature age ruck with a late pick again.

If Griff goes we could do worse than recruit Jonathon Giles from the SANFL. Has been in the syten before and has developed this year. Big wraps from many who have seen him this year. A dark horse could be Adam Cockshell from South. He is a man mountain and dominates the hitouts in SANFL. Had baggage from the Power but I like what I see on the field.

Your being harsh on James Craig. The kid hasn't even played a game for us and your calling garbage.

Cockshell would be quite the decent pickup, currently leads the SANFL in hitouts, with Giles second.
