Josh Hill's 3rd Quarter

He's got another 21 rounds to get the NAB star award. And here was me thinking out only nomination was going to be Everitt...things are definitely starting to look up in our young guns department.:)

Houli got the rising star nomination this week. Thought Hill was very unlucky not to get it. We wouldn't have won with out his poise and i think Essendon still would have won with out Bachar. But i suppose Collingwood fans might put up the same argument for Nathan Browns job on Pavlich.

I'm a bit disappointed for the lad as I thought he played well beyond his years and excelled in areas like contested marking, which normally the rookies really struggle in.

He'll continue to have opportunities to get the nomination though, so I'm not too worried. Keep working hard Hill!

Agree with this, and good post.

I'm annoyed he didn't receive it. Houli did well, but NM were out of the contest for much of the second half. Hill stood up against better opposition in the best game of the round, and as you said, held marks that rookies usually struggle to hold - let alone established AFL players.

But hey, it was "The Dons" so I suppose no surprises.

Keep working hard Hill, you've got a bright future.

...........he's always been a gun player , but a player who respects the opposition , he doesn't have an arrogant bone in his body and that will take him all the way .

A year before the bulldogs scouts approached him , Brisbane Lions offered to relocate his entire family to Brissy , he wasn't ready and wanted to continue playing footy at a junior level with his mates ..........lucky for the doggies eh ? ...He's a good kid who will be a great asset to your team :thumbsu:

Yes Josh Hill looked the goods alright, he impressed me with his perservence he keep running into space and provided an option the whole game even when early on when he was not being used. He also took a few courageous marks.

I've read the Rising star award isn't just for 1 weeks performance, they look at performance over several games. Considering Hill has only played 1 (or 2?) game it's probably a bit premature to expect him to be nominated. Hopefully after the we flog Melbourne he'll get nominated :thumbsu:

Agreed, it was a good game by a second game player. But let's not be too hasty, he probably slipped under Adelaide's radar a little so was given a little more latitude than normal. This week against the Dees let's see if he backs up with another good game. They are going to come out all guns firing after the poor showing last week, so it will be interesting how the young man stands up under physical pressure. Melbourne have historically been harder at it than us and my only concern with Josh is how he stands up when it is time to get the head over the ball. It is fine to have party tricks as long as you are prepared to do the hard stuff as well.
He took some strong contested marks that were pleasing and showed that he doesn't lack courage but I just want to see some aggression at the contest to be convinced we have unearthed a gem.
Someone earlier said he reminded them of a young Nicky Winmar, I hope he is as good as Nicky but a long way to go yet.

Happy to say he backed up. However apart from the first 20 minutes they were dreadful, so the opposition stank. Having said that for a young man he is very composed.
Starting to become a fave.

Josh Hill was great again yesterday and at least times he tried to take a screamer and on the 3rd occasion he was successful. I think we have a great player on our hands with Hill. I hope he can remain injury free.
He ran hard all day, tackled, presented, kicked goals and just did all the right things all day.
