Worrells not a KPD in the vein of Murray or Butts though. He has been plying the link role in the SANfL. Probably averaging 20 touches a game

He's been playing the same role that Doedee, Keath and Lever played. That intercepting third tall role.

You don't need to be a KPD to be damn good at that role.

Why don't we get Worrell to play the HBF role that Dawson is at the moment and move Dawson to a wing ?
A back 7 of Butts, Frampton, Doedee, Worrell, Hinge, Jones and Brown would be intriguing. Intercept galore, and it would also allow us to see what Hinge/Jones can do as primary rebounders

I would probably like to see Parnell come into that group at the expense of Hinge.
Parnell has been doing well in sanfl and offers better balance and rebound than Hinge

Definitely room to give him a go as the '4th tall' / utility type down back. (And yes I know he's taller than Doedee)

Nathan Broad for Richmond comes to mind as a similar role perhaps? Played in the same side as Balta, Gibcus and Grimes who are all taller than him.

He'd also give a fair bit of flexibility in terms of rotating through oppo forwards, ans you'd think he can have a crack at a tall, med or small if required, similar to Doedee.

Worrell could be a shrewd inclusion. Gives us another player to help intercept on McKay and Curnow. With Frampton as one of our KPDs, we’re not going to beat them 1v1, so we’ll have to do so with second and third help-outs in the air

You were spot on here, he would have been handy last week against Carlton's big guys

So for those that get to watch the SANFL each week, was is it about Worrell that is preventing him from getting a gig in the AFL team?

Is it just the fact he plays the same role as Doedee? Or does he have some defending deficiencies?

He does lack strength in the 1v1
Dan Menzel exposed this weakness a bit the last time they played WWT
But the Crows seem to concentrate on a players weakness instead of their strengths.
Or should play them in a position where his strengths shine through

I’m my opinion, he’s not the most accountable defender.

Kinda reminds me of Hendo back in the day…gets a lot of the ball, but quite often his opponent does a lot of damage.

Unfortunately for him, I just think Hinge is ahead of him on the pecking order.

Worrell seemed to fall into our lap a few years ago. With him and Mcasey we thought we had sured up our KPD stocks for a decade but years later neither look close to AFL footy.

He is sounding like another intercepting defender which we have several better options. Doedee and Hinge to name a couple. Is there anywhere else we can trial him? Up forward he is behind a bigger queue of Tex, RT, Fog, Berg, Gollant etc.

Maybe we should just trade for a bag of chips?

The reasoning for the question is could he take Doedee spot if we moved Doedee elsewhere?

I have long been a fan of the idea of having Doedee moved the midfield given his strength and class in close

This is exactly my feeling as well. It seems to me as an outside observer that we put greater emphasis on mitigating players' weaknesses instead of maximising their strengths. While both of those things are important, too much emphasis on the mitigation side of things just drags all players to the middle. The end result is a list with a whole lot of vanilla on it.

Dan Menzel when fit and firing has made plenty of AFL experienced footballers look pretty ordinary numerous times too...

I think you would be very disappointed. Doedee has shown absolutely nothing to suggest he could play midfield.
His class is the strong mark. He has a strong body, but no agility, and is not great with the ground ball.
