18 for Dixon pls. Carey and Lloyd were great forwards and Jeremy Cameron will be held in a similar regard once his career finishes.

Plus, Dixon deserves first dibs. He's a proven forward, whereas Toumpas is merely unfulfilled talent at the moment.

That's a bit harsh on Toumpas, state U18 Captain where as Dixon sounds like he picked up a footy at the age of 20 or so who was from a basketball background. However, Dixon has brawn and agility with excellent hand skills, Toumpas on the other hand is only missing the brawn but he has the foot skills.

If you are basing your opinion on the #18 with Carey and Lloyd doesn't quite fit as to how other view this because the #18 in Port according to many here is that you take on that number to continue on that legacy and whereby the #1 is worn by the capitano. Correct me if I am wrong, your suggestion is that they are all KPF, but your working on the lines of the world game where the #10 is THE number to wear. Is that where your coming from? If so, I get it.... but I don't think it will go down well with the AFL true die hards who have the teal coloured glasses on.

So if we go by the True Port way, Toumpas wears the #18....

Am I the only one that wants Sam Gray to stay with 46? I think it suits him nicely.

It's like Logan and 44. I get the feeling that Gray is a guy who's at his best when he's on the edge.

You forgot to mention the great David Granger - the second best CHF to pull on the boots for Port Adelaide behind Tredders...
I think 18 would be perfect for Dixon.

You're reading a bit much into my reasoning for it. I don't think a 'number for a position' is something for our game to push for.

18 is one of those numbers I associate with guns in a team. Carey was probably the greatest Centre Half Forward in history (sorry Tredders), and Lloyd was a superstar too. Out of the available numbers, 18 would suit the big fella the most.

Toumpas is unfulfilled talent, like it or not. 27 pretty average games in 3 years, from a number 4 pick. Compare that to Dixon, who first kicked a Sherrin at 16, was playing AFL football only four years later, and who last year kicked 41 goals from 16 games; only one of which was a goalless game.

18: Dixon
22: Toumpas

Dave could have been ...

But not a patch on Ian Hannaford

I see your point, hopefully both of them will turn those numbers into something really special....

Andrew Moore 55 games, Stuart Cochrane 104, Derek Murray 23 and Nick Lower 55. 35 of Nick Lower's games were with Fremantle.
Stuart Cochrane also played 50 with the Kangaroos before us and was unlucky in that he played 19 minor round games in 2004 but was not in the team for the finals.
Didn't Peter Burgoyne wear 26 before changing to 7?

You're right. I was just going through the afltables player statistics which has them listed under the jumper they've worn the most. For instance, Travis Boak is still recorded as number 10 and Nathan Krakouer as his original 29.
