........St Kilda had taken up the chance to offer him a lifeline? Benny has shown through the season that he is still a great player, and he still has his lightning speed running out of packs. He's always been one of my favorites, and IF St Kilda had given him that chance, would he have helped St Kilda win the flag today?

Very interesting thought!!

For Ben to play how he did in let's face it, a HORRIBLE side, I still rate him as one of the best in the game, and that was after 2 odd years out of the game, he should be even better next year :)

I dont often respond much to the 'what if' threads, nor do i like the whole hindsight business, BUT in this case i shall deflect and think it over!! St Kilda would be one of 14 clubs thinking to themselves, what if we did take Ben?? He is fit, he still gets plenty of ball and he still influences games. Now whether that is because he is playing in a poor side can also be questioned, but the fact that the saints could have had him as part of their GF team is an interesting prospect. It probably would have rendered Luke Ball or Dempster out of today's game but gee he has proved to everyone that he still has it, i am sure the saints can say they are happy to have done it without him but yes someone down must be thinking he could be handy today. "Gardiner wins the centre bounce, cousins takes the clearance and spears it to a leading Riewoldt!!!"

He would have been more than handy for any team that picked him up (still an out and out gun), but by finishing on top the ladder I think the Saints are justified in their decision not to choose him.

This decision cost St Kilda the 2009 premiership.

Face it.

Ben Cousins would have been the difference.

- Not brave enough to pull the trigger.

- You thought Raf Clarke would better represent the St Kilda jumper on Grand Final day then Ben Cousins.

- "We can do it without Cuz..." - No, you couldn't do it without him.

I feel for the Saints, and I have massive respect for them.

But they needed Benny today.

They gotta be spewing this is the age of political correctness.

What a load of shit... Brave enough to pull the trigger as if Richmond are some sort of heroes for taking him

Saints didn't need Ben Cousins, they needed to kick straight.

Oh yes, Jordan McMahon is the man they need.

In a close game, you can rely on him to kick the winning goal :D

(in all seriousness congrats St Kilda on a great season)

Yep! I agree! although with the wisdom of hindsight on my part, it's easy for me to say now. I just wonder if any Saints supporters share the same view?
