Arsenal board consider cashing in on Henry
tribalfooball.com - February 04, 2007
Arsenal are considering cashing in on captain Thierry Henry at the end of this season.
The Sunday Express says Henry could be on his way out of Arsenal this summer - with Barcelona and Real Madrid ready for a £25million transfer fight.
The Gunners board have met in secret to agree that Arsene Wenger can think the unthinkable and use the proceeds to continue with his rebuilding work.
Chicago Fire to break bank for £1M-a-month Chelsea ace Lampard
tribalfooball.com - February 04, 2007
Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard is a big money target for MLS club Chicago Fire.
The says Chelsea's midfield ace will get a mega-bucks offer to play for Chicago Fire as Major League Soccer seeks one more big name for its new season.
And there are also plans to import up to another dozen top British-based players as part of a planned progression of the American game.
Lampard is being targeted under a new FIFA rule which means he could quit Chelsea for a fee of only £8million if he chose to this summer.
Chelsea expect they can beat off interest from Europe, but the fascination of the project to make football the major game in the US might bring a different challenge.
Chicago want a world name to rival the glitz that David Beckham will be bringing to Los Angeles, and see the England midfield ace - little over a year ago named the second best player on the planet behind Ronaldinho - as having the perfect profile to work with sponsors that will help finance a £1m-a-month wage packet.
Significantly Lampard, like Beckham, is contracted to sportswear giants Adidas, who are sponsoring all 13 teams when this season's MLS gets under way in April. Eight of those clubs assemble this week in Bradenton in Florida for training camps where they will step up their efforts to import new recruits.
British-based agent Neil Sillett, son of former Coventry boss John, flew to Florida yesterday to help complete the headhunting list of players.
He said: "It wouldn't be fair to confirm individual names, but it is correct that the Americans want one more 'marquee' player to go alongside David Beckham."
