Could see the AFL getting involved and getting Chris to the Lions the same way they did with Roos and Melbourne the need a good coach Ratten wouldn't cut it up there can't see him being a crowd favorite

So just some symbolic guy to appease the masses. Really dumb.

Chris Scott would only do it if the AFL wanted to put heaps of money into Brisbane.

I also think he has invested a lot into the rebuilding of Geelongs list and wouldn't want to leave.

Also for many more reasons it's a terrible idea. I thought it was only backward thinking Vic clubs who always went the favored son route

Take another ex-player I quit and so will a lot of people, single dumbest thing that the club could possibly do.

Brisbane must appoint a coach who has never had any involvement with the club as a player or assistant coach at the club.
How about that.

I'd love to see one of the Scott bro's become your senior coach.

Their best off getting a good assistant in. Ratts I think wouldn't be bad actually.

Going after the symbolic Roos or insert big name coach here does nothing.

It's a big job and I think you need someone young and energetic enough to build a club.

Older coaches have been there and done that and often think it's just too hard.

Btw Roos hasn't been a failure at melb, though I think Goodwin is essentially coaching them now

1 year extension not long ago, 12 million in debt, I doubt it.
By doing nothing the debt will only get worse. For Brisbane to fix the debt problem we need to be competitive on the field to increase attendences and sponsorship. We also need to sort out the problem with our ground deal and training facilities.

Currently we have one of the worst ground deals in the competition to make matters worse we have no standalone training facility and pay the Gabba trust $1m a year to train on the ground.

The training ground problem is something that the AFL have shown zero interest in resolving. They think that the Queensland government will give AFL money like Vic/SA/WA/Tas governments, sorry but they don't. This means we need to get funding from somewhere, but the AFL don't want to help. If people think that it is because we aren't pressuring the government they don't fund sport, the Cowboys are struggling to get funding to redevelop their homeground in Townsville, so what hope do we have. All the money is going to Gold Coast for Commonwealth Games.

Is this where they sack their coach because they're gonna get Roos next year?

... then call Roos afterwards?
Well was about as bright as allowing Hird to run the whole football department and ask no questions about his sports science program.

There is always an exception to the rule but as a whole it has fail written all over it.

In Brisbane's case I do agree that Voss and Leppitsch should not have been senior coaches, not that soon anyway. Voss should've been assistant with us, as he initially agreed, and Leppitsch should've honed his skills at another club first.

But it's happened and now Brisbane are in a massive rut with no short term resolution. Someone should approach Ratten to see if he wants to have a go, and I'd be OK with AFL off-field assistance.

I actually rate Brisbane list quite highly. It had a serious lack of KPP talent but that slowly being corrected.

I don't rate Leppa as a coach and never have. However he is playing the kids, getting the club ready for the next step forward a la Primus at Port.

Is there any point sacking him at this stage? Nobody talented will want to coach up there. We were in the same situation (Dew and Pyke rejected us) and we only got Bolton because clubs are stupid. Who cares if he hasn't played AFL footy?

Leppitsch was at Richmond for 4 seasons before taking over plus another three at the Lions under Matthews before that.

You do know Leppitsch was an assistant coach for seven years?

2007 Brisbane - 10th - 9 wins (Leigh Matthews - senior coach)
2008 Brisbane - 10th - 10 wins (Leigh Matthews - senior coach)
2009 Brisbane - 6th - 14 wins (2 finals) (Michael Voss - senior coach)
2010 Richmond - 15th - 6 wins (Damien Hardwick - senior coach)
2011 Richmond - 12th - 8 wins (Damien Hardwick - senior coach)
2012 Richmond - 12th - 10 wins (Damien Hardwick - senior coach)
2013 Richmond - 7th - 15 wins (1 final) (Damien Hardwick - senior coach)

It took Hardwick four years to build Richmond's list to get into the finals. Leppitsch has had two.

Not to mention that Brisbane's
  • spending on football operations is $1.5 million below the competition's benchmark.
  • training and player facilities are the worst in the competition
  • funding to spend the extra six-figure salary cap money the Lions had "banked" over 2015 in order to further improve their player list is not available to them. (Only 95% of their salary cap was spent in 2015).

But it's happened and now Brisbane are in a massive rut with no short term resolution. Someone should approach Ratten to see if he wants to have a go, and I'd be OK with AFL off-field assistance.

What's Ratten going to do that will make any difference?

My bad.

Ratten is an experienced senior coach that might be sniffing around for another coaching position. Are you confident in Leppitsch developing the current squad to become contenders again?

They weren't anywhere near awful against Hawthorn and ran the Swans within 3 points. It might be a very slow burn but there are glimmers of hope there.
So our biggest hope is that we lost, again. Most clubs have hope in the back of a couple of wins, yet we should have hope on the back of an 8 goal loss?
