AFL site reports that the selection panel includes Dale Alcock, Peter Bell, Peter Mann, Sue Murphy and an independent panel member.

If we had a CEO, would that person be involved in the process to appoint the next coach.

What appointment do they make first. The CEO or the Coach?

I suppose there might be some other coaching candidates at the end of the season, including perhaps a couple of not yet resigned or sacked coaches.

With hale taking the reigns, an "ex Clarkson assistant" has a lovely ring to it. Hasn't every flag for the last 10 years been won by Clarkson or an assistant of him ?

Hale only played under Clarko. Burns would be worth interviewing as Mitchell is seen as the heir presumptive to Clarko. Thi
He's $26 on Sportsbet to be senior coach! :tearsofjoy:

Surprising no Burns on list.
Good pedigree and has ambitions of being a SC. Clarkson factory seems to turn out fairly successful coaches.

Time for an attacking coach.

Melbourne and North have played pretty attacking brands over the recent years.

Hey guys. Sorry to intrude. Bit of info on Caracella: he's got some personal issues and needs to be relatively close to Geelong (part of the reason he's swapping Punt Rd for Tullamarine, along with money).

I'd be very surprised if he even put his hand up.

Thanks - I truly hope those issues get sorted out; we forget often that these people have families and/or lives to go back to when the lights get turned off at the grounds.

There are going to be a ton a names thrown around the next few weeks, Pyke wouldn't be the worst, but we can do better. Belly hasn't done anything yet where I've thought, "Well, that was stupid." Can you point to a decision you didn't like?

Until Belly makes some questionable decisions, I will trust in him to guide the Freo ship for now. The board extended his contract so they obviously trust him and he'll be on the committee who choses the next coach. I have no clue how much actual influence on the decision he'll have, but regardless he'll be a voice at the table as it happens. Why extend his contract if you're not going to listen to him?

According to some he already has made some bad decisions with respect to the debacle about the list manager - that is sounding more amatuerish by the minute.

As a manager I would say that you might extend his contract if you are being lent on by political forces to do so, regardless of the amount of trust. Those political forces can come back to haunt you if they are percieved by candidates as being too strong an influence and they don't run for the positions as a consequence.

Alcock said on radio yesterday evening quite clearly that the coach is priority (COO is currently doing the CEO role in the interim).

For me I think the only two guys we look at is JLO or Suma we should stay away from Vic coaches we have of late bought in these guys in and in my opinion don't have that freo at heart mentality we need to start getting people that want to really see this club rise to what it should be and I think these two in JLO and Suma are blokes that would love to see freo rise again good freo boys and that goes with the CEO we need to find a good strong Wa person cause I think these Vic guys just don't really bleed purple and truely understand the two club town in Wa but that my opinion anyhow

Grab the best available and do this properly with no parochial bullshit that can only serve to muddy the waters. Personally I do believe Longmuir is one of the best available.

Sumich shouldn't even be allowed in the premises to interview.

Best available with an attacking style and that prioritizes skill work and decision making. Also new ideas around injury management.

Freos back 6 is solid.
Midfield is a little thin and method/skill not there (outside Fyfe)
Forward line could be anything if we can get them the ball properly.

Medium and small forwards are decidedly average. I think McCarthy could be an elite medium forward. But aside from that, I’m not sure any of our other medium or smalls are elite.

The two WA boys that played for WA would be ideal, Henry should be a given. That with Sturt who has some tricks
and it's looking better.
After 2015 under Ross the forward line has always been a graveyard, Id expect that to change straight up.

I think our smalls aren't as bad as made out, the smalls feed off the tall forwards unless you just want to play more midfielders and they get lots of kicks up the ground.

Here's an example. Brandon Matera has kicked 30 goals this season so far, his best ever return - since we have been missing Taberner and Hogan he has kicked 6.

Matera was fantastic when he had talls around him early in the season. Switta has a bit to work on, but his tackling and pressure good. Needs to hit the scoreboard. Plus add in Henry.

I’d love to see a set up including all of
Lobb, Tabs, Hogan & Mccarthy. No reason it couldn’t work

Also think that Darcy could be good for at at least a goal a game rotating with Lobb. That combo will give us something to be excited for.

Absolutely. If he’s forward he needs to stay closer to goal though. Just anchor him in the square. No leading option, long to a 1 on 1 which should be in our favour with height

I'm excited for the future. Sacking these two won't cure everything, but it's a step in the right direction (still have concerns about strength and conditioning, high performance, etc...but that's another post). I loved the confidence and clarity Alcock had in his press conference. To me, it appears the board has a clear idea of where they want to go and are strong enough to make the tough decisions. Will it be the right decision? Time will tell. But, at least instead of another off season discussing ad nauseum the successes and failures of RTB (which inevitably devolves into some name calling and mild personal attacks), the fans can hopefully get around a new coach and direction for FFC over the next few months.

I am really looking forward to this offseason!
Not having a shot at Bell but there have been a couple. The list manager. The sacking of Lyon a week before the end of the season. The contract situation and make up of our assistant coaches and S&C staff. The un-contracted status of Langdon and Tucker which, added to BHill, leaves the specialist position of wing under-resourced and vulnerable.

I think he is doing ok, but CEO requires a longer apprenticeship.

Truth will eventually surface, something has been brewing for awhile at Freo, won't be long before it is released I
think.

I reckon Cam would have breathed a sigh of relief yesterday. Lyon has done his career no favors, the fresh mindset whoever it is will do him a world of good i think.
