The way we're tracking I wouldn't write off 2023, just have to get rid of the remaining docker shit that we pulled out a few times today.
I'm a bit concerned that if we win it I'll get hit by a bus and won't get to enjoy it.
You make a good point, and as much as I'd love for it to be this year, I still think we're a little raw. Stay away from those bus stops sdfc!!

It's so exciting that we might finally have the right pairing of a quality coach and a quality list.

You go back and look at our 2006 era team and the quality on every line was amazing, but the coaching was flaky so we underachieved and wasted a lot of that talent. So many games where we rocked up and you could tell in the first 5 minutes they weren't up for the fight that day.

What I loved about today was it wasn't some free-wheeling goal fest, it was very much a finals type slog and our young team toughed it out magnificently. For someone who doesn't seem like a hardarse JLo certainly has the boys playing with consistency, toughness, and discipline.

How do you think this team compares to the 2013 iteration? Obviously it's less experienced, but it oozes pace and perhaps has more skill within it?

I think this team is easily more skilled. Pace is a given as well. At this stage I'd still take the Sandi/Mundy/Fyfe/Barlow midfield over Darcy/Brayshaw/Mundy/Serong/Brodie. That 2013 team was frenetic with it's tackling and pressure though.

I reckon this team is more even in talent than 2013. The top few maybe aren’t as good but the bottom few are better.
Same level of buy in & a much more attractive style.
2013 was a blunt instrument. Very effective against most but in rock, paper, scissors terms always bested by the paper of Hawthorn.
2013 overwhelmed teams early then sat back & maintained. You could see how exhausting it was & the fade-outs started after the GF.
There was little joy about our footy in 14/15. This team looks like they’re loving it. Its a beautiful full ground defense with a lot of attention to shape, roles & structure but it’s very adaptable & has a few gears.
Much better to watch & I think it will stand up in finals.
There was a lot of symmetry about the last few weeks on different grounds with much different opposition styles.
Take half a quarter to get the shape right & then start punching back once the other mob has been stifled. Break even by half time & pull away in the 3rd.

What about a Darcy/Fyfe/Mundy/Brayshaw/Brodie midfield?

On top of that the 2013 spine was proven and very very good. As much as I am loving this season, we haven't made or played in finals yet. That 2013 team beat a peak cats side in Geelong on their way to a GF.

The back six was ahead of the current one (although the current side has the potential to go passed them it will be tough) - McPharlin, Johnson, Duffield, Spurr, Ibbo, The fist.

The midfield would bully ours and Pav, Walters and Ballantyne would cause us headaches. There is some recency bias here and I am not sure it shows enough respect to a bloody good team. The geelong team won 17 or 18 games in the regular season and were the reigning premiers. We took the hawks to within a couple of kicks on their home deck, with the umps in the GF. A historically good Hawks team. Lets not start comparing until we win a prelim.

What about a Darcy/Fyfe/Mundy/Brayshaw/Brodie midfield?

This just shouldn't be a conversation yet:

Peak Mundy, fyfe, Hill, Neale, Barlow and Crowley (who nullified the Ablett and Judd on many occasions). Crowley would beat Brayshaw up all day.

I love our current team but the comparisons are silly atm.

Poshman, you changed your avatar, and I didn't even realise who I was interacting with at first haha!
My belief is that this team will prove to be better, with the caveat being a little more time.

Oh I think they will be better as well... But we are a way off yet. If we are comparing today then the 2013 team should be the go.

I hated changing the avatar... it was coming up on my screen as the little boxes that mean the image isnt showing.. I am not happy with the new one but like the generational symbolism of our two greats.

Haha, yeah, avatar image selection and orientation is no simple feat! Half the time my images lack the impact they had at full resolution, because they turn out ant-sized! Oh well, as long as people can tell it's the smoking gun Will Brodie!!

Definitely more talent. Less role players and the ones we have are better. Super young on every line. Better list overall. Lesser spine.

Got to pay that one.. haha. He ended up a serviceable player I suppose but not in the same league as the rest.

If you could give him props on being a good bloke he'd come out a winner.

I've only met him once but he seemed like a top bloke.

The one thing I like about freo at the moment is the group also seem to be good guys and not dick heads.

Whilst I agree that the current team are super exciting and have the potential to be anything, I can't go beyond the fact that the 2013 side had Matthew Pavlich in it.

JL has won me over i was doubting him a touch last year. It was more the uncompetitive performances against all the top teams. We didnt really push any of them which i felt was a real concern.

And the diabolical loss in the final round to st kilda left a bitter taste and that he couldn't get the players up for a potential finals spot on the line.

The buy in is there and the belief is growing by the week.

I jumped on and chucked a cheeky $10 on & backed us to win the comp after Essendon match after seeing that performance & the champion data stats adamant that our profile was a preliminary final. Odds have halved in 3 weeks.

But there is a smell of Richmond 2017 & Melbourne last year about Freo we have jumped up unexpectedly into top 4 calculations after 7 rounds after numerous mediocre seasons just like those teams did.

I hope we have as possible full strength team in round 11 at MCG. I reckon we can give the Demons are run for there money with our style.

Not even making finals in 04 and 05 with that list was piss poor. Only ending up with 1 finals win and 3 losses from 03 and 06 either side showed Connolly was a dud.

Cost us a flag I reckon. 06 should have been our year but the lack of finals hardening due to missing 04/05 really showed when we choked away that lead in the QF against Adelaide.

I maintain that was still the most talented team we've ever put together. Better than the 2013 model.

Longmuir is the man to lead us to a flag, I've never been more convinced than I am now.
I hope to you and every Dockers fan that you are right🤞🤞 .

I predicted that Justin Longmuir would last around 5-8 years at the club.

That's means a good run of finals for 2-3 years, possibly even 4 years.

Regardless if Freo get the flag or not under Justin Longmuirs coaching period. I want stability again. And it seems Freo might get some on field stability just like Freo had from 2012-15.
