Kane Lambert one day coaches Richmond to a Grand Final victory over Carltoon. This former Carlton VFL player who they rejected hasn’t quite trolled them enough as yet…😎

Fantastic appointment, great to see Richmond depart from their normal policy of pushing retired players away to start coaching elsewhere. Lambert must be held in extremely high esteem.

Was hoping this was on the cards - wonderful appointment
Mentoring our youngsters - watch their development really accelerate next year.

WOW

Tigers icing the off season even before it officially begins!

I have nothing against Kane, and he could be a great coach, development coach and so forth.

The concern, and it is not about Kane, it is about the club.

Is the club becoming too camp? The trouble I see is with club politics. There is not enough lateral thinking, not enough perspective from separate contemporary experiences.

Kane will have is own ideas but he has been moulded by RFC. So its more reinforcement of a certain ideology. That is fine if it creates a premiership. But if the team needs a rethink, shift in approach, new ideas like Geelong in 2022 it could easily go against RFC's progress.

Again, this is not about Kane it is about obtaining fresh constructive ideas that enable our team to grow and develop.

Remember, before Dimma come along there was a history of the tail wagging the dog and issues from such a supposed atmosphere. If things become too cosy, less superior outcomes usually fester

How much lateral thinking is needed when you are clearly on a good track. Richmond never lost any of their last 17 games by more than 6 points despite Dusty never being near his best and missing half those games outright. Hardwick said they didn’t do loads of situational practice, they prioritised system based practice to get young players accustomed to he system of the team, something that obviously reaped its own benefits, but will no doubt pay off more and more in future.

I think the idea is while you are on a track that is succeeding then you stay on the track. Thus, multiple flags after 2017 Premiership with more or less the same game plan. Then if it is clear this isn’t working any longer, then we think laterally Magic. Maybe not quite as laterally as you though.

Why do you always want to make changes to a team that is performing well?

I think our defence is more suspect than people realise as an example. People become too accepting of old norms still apply unless its fundamentals. Where we can we need to be ahead of the game. Oppositions find ways to break down methods over time so they become weaker points against certain set-ups. For example Geelong is great defending the dump kick but against ground ball their defence can be caught out

Hopper and Taranto will improve us but I think we are a little ignorant of weaknesses in defence that are getting exposed as some are getting older and Rance is no longer there who covered for so many at times so well defensively.

On the Couch they highlighted RFC weakness as defence. Now it used to be our strength. They cherry picked weaknesses with Rich and others in the Brisbane line with athleticism and running etc.. You could apply some of that a little to RFC in different aspects. Rioli has been good but he is not Wanganeen so there is a reason as a defender not so many brownlow votes come your way when the main role is defense and the team mix is not gelling as best as it could. Truck will help but I think we need to look at advanced options and different ways to improve across the ground.

We need to look at ways of beating teams regularly by big margins like in 2017 when we can I think

are you implying Kane dosent have the balls to say what he thinks??

Nope, I just think because he has been playing for our club for years he is drinking from the same bath water in terms of what we need to do as a team. It might not matter so much to Kane because he is just developing the players generally mainly.

When truck comes in we need to come up with a way of restricting opposition scores to 60-70 points or less and that might mean different players and combinations cause every player is different with different skills and attributes to exploit and Rance is not there anymore so hopefully truck is open to possibly doing it in a different way with guys like Gibcus, Balta etc.. For example, fly let Moore run forward to possibly win the game as part of scenario coaching against the Swans last minute to try and steal a victory shown by D King apparently.

I think we have pretty talented forward options regardless of forward transition so it might be easier if we focus on stopping the opposition scoring to help us be more competitive and a greater premiership contender. On of the things we did in 2017 was resort to massive pressure to defend

How annoying is it when your computer logs you out on the BigFooty page and you start scrolling and see posts from people you have muted. It ain't "Magic"

Truck has been away from RFC for 4 years, worked under another senior coach and other assistant coaches, he has fresh ideas and has shown previously that he can turn a backline.
Last year, we bring in Teague - Ex Senior Coach that has worked as an assistant and with other assistants for years.

Now Lambert, who is heart and soul of the club. Is our very own Emma Murray when Emma isn't available and will worth exclusively in the development space with all the knowledge he has learnt over the years. The kids you love so much, NEED a Lambert. He builds believe, he has shown with hard work, it is possible.
