41-1 to win the rising star 👀

50 on him. Would be huge if he comes on.

That physical profile on our next wave of mids is looking very imposing.

McAluffie, Lalor, Smilie. All big and inside beasts. But those have extra physical traits that can separate them. McAuliffe is the fastest (2.93 sprint) although Lalor could push that if he tested. Lalor the most explosive. Smilie is super agile for his size with a great kick.

Add in potentially Hotton and and Rodriguez from the next draft rotating through. All goes to plan and the midfield can be almost set

Yeh he’s certainly worth a dabble.

Only thing I’d question is, does he have the tank yet?

I think so and all reports looks to be improved further.

An interesting exercise would be how many of the draftees this year would match Kane's VFL numbers from last year. I think only a handful or less would. And going into year 2 is generally easier than the rookie year.

I think the main question is will the coaching stuff give him enough midfield opportunity and game time to shine?

Far more likely than last year at least.

That wouldn't be hard. Not the tank is fair enough, but he was sub, rested, dropped and VFL bye, one game then sub again. No continuity. If he doesn't have the tank let him play VFL or due to injury let him at least run himself into some fitness on the ground rather than the pine.

I meant because no JGTI, Bolton or Baker. But those things too.

My question about Kane is can he play any position besides a center square mid? I know not every player is super flexible with duel positions but I wonder if he can actually play anywhere else?

He played a bit of half back in his draft year.

He tested well for vertical leap and is a good mark. But I'd want him in the middle with his physicality

Loved him as a pick and just thought it was as simple as him just being out of his depth a bit when at senior level.
Patience is the go here. But one thing for sure he will be much better for the year he just had and another preseason.

Interesting note from Caesar's PRE trailing notes from Monday....
McAuliffe: continues to blitz the sprints and prominent all round, hopefully a big improver.

McAuliffe looked at home in the middle last year. He was composed and used the ball well, he just couldn't get from contest to contest. Sounds like he has worked on that off season. 5th in his draft year over the 20m sprint, that could be quicker now.

That’s awesome news hope he can keep it up we need support around the ball with hopper and Taranto

Real glimpses. But outside that he was invisible. Plenty to get excited about.

Yze should have got a few more games into him last season. Club was still in that honour the old players psych for half the year. The way we used our sub was a joke as well, that needs to change.

Hopefully he & Fawcett (now fit) get plenty of time on the park this season in positions they were drafted for. My concern is our supporters will be quick to dog on him if he has a quiet game without realising its because he just hasnt been played enough in seniors.

He wasn’t selected because he could barely run out games. Hence why he was made to be sub a few times

Yup...it's a big step-up into the first's for first gamers...a bit of a shock to the system...as to what's required.
Takes a while to physically season them to the rigors...2-3years...

And courtesy of Mr. Brightside, PRE

had the pleasure of viewing training with Caesar this morning, was like walking through Time Square with Billy Joel , talk about a celebrity 😁

Ripper morning, bit hot a steamy .

Few full ground drills filled me with hope of some good attacking ball movement in seasons ahead .

Campbell, Smillie, Smith were very impressive with footys in hand .

Mansell may kill a teammate at training .

Fawcett is an impressive athlete , big unit .

Balta has bigger pythons than Hulk Hogan

Definitely some good signs

Laura Kane has kindly written a report on this morning's training over there Grrr.

She really should have picked a less obvious username to cover her true identity...

Showed composure but couldn't get his hands on it much.
Hopefully people are right and he is the type that needs multiple preseasons (unlike the Cotch/Dusty/Rioli types who seem to have the fitness from season 1).

think Kane, Seth Campbell mid/hb and Smithy hb all have great attributes. To me they look the most likely of the 20 - 23 year olds
Add Hotton, Lalor and Smillie and midfield and h/b is slowly getting there.
Of course they all have a bit to prove yet.

I spoke to Kanes school teacher on a job and he had nothing but praise for him. He described him as quick explosive bull who did not take backward steps against anyone..
From that point on ive taken a keen interest. There is more to him than just that as well.

Reckon one game he will just go wham and arrive.
With Hopper Taranto Smillie and Lalor he,s got a bit of competition for a spot.Id be finding a way to fit them all in the 22. Along with Hotton.
