I really dont see what all the hype is about with Lucas. he may have had some injury problems but even so, he didnt show much. nothing as good as say Curnow did averaging 20+ disposals for the first 7 rounds. imo i would much rather have Curnow in the team than Lucas.

I'd rather have both. We need Ed's grunt work in the middle no doubt but Lucas is a classy player; can play different roles, is a good size, fast, excellent reader of the play and fine foot and hand skills.

I think Lucas' ceiling is a lot higher than Curnow's. Not that it means anything if he's not progressing towards it and delivering, but Lucas will be transformed when he gets a consistent run at it and the confidence in his body/in his ability to play at the top level. Talented kid, for sure.

Lucas was a "pup" in his first season.

Curnow is a mature rookie who had previously been rookied by Adelaide before making his way back into the AFL via Box Hill.

That's the great thing about letting a young kid develop, what you don't see now you might in the next few seasons.
Curnow has a few years on Lucas, played more senior footy.
It's the development in players like Lucas that will push us to being a contender.
Be patient ;)

Curnow had come of a broken leg in the season before and still played fine. I also like Curnow's background story, he seriously had to work hard to get where he is today.

Anyway, Here's hoping Lucas develops and becomes a good footballer for us.

looks like a competition between an athelete in Curnow with a hell of a tank and maybe a skillful Sugar. If that is the case they may not compete for the 1 spot

If you don't think that all of these kids - even the ones who fail miserably - didn't have to work hard to even have a sniff at playing in the AFL then you're seriously deluded.

I really do hate when people come out and suggest player X has had to work harder than player Y. Without hard work none of them would be where they are today.

I believe that you're forgetting that Sugar had to overcome debilitating injuries. For him to be in this conversation that we're all optimistic and hopeful that he's going to be a break out player in 2012 demonstrates just how much work the lad has put in on the park.

As far as Kane in his first year... Were you watching the same football games that I was? Some of the little things that he was able to do are things that a lot of 100+ game players in the league could only dream of doing. He has an innate, unable to be taught, god given ability.

What really spoke volumes to me was someone who posted about the conversation they had with Sugar at the best and fairest (sorry, not entirely sure who it was). To hear that a club administrator felt that way about him re-signing with the Blues and how good he was really made me think back to the last of the great reserves/under 19s players that we had come into the side years ago. That's really what Lucas is - a modern day version of those teams (Kouta, Fraser Brown, etc.) where you had a kid overcoming his injuries and putting in the work in the VFL but with enough admiration from key insiders who knew how good he could become.

Truly, the only thing holding Kane back from being a breakout star this year is injuries. He's coming into the perfect team - the perfect set up - with the right amount of experience around him (that he didn't have in 2010) that he can impact games by being that damaging mid that the opposition can't afford to focus on because they're too busy dealing with Judd, Murphy, Gibbs, Simpson, et al.

If I was to compare the situation that Kane is coming into this year then it'd be Joel Selwood. I'm not saying that he's as good as Selwood was (or is now) but that when Selwood broke out he was the one who was afforded the mostly free run due to the opposition focusing on the Cats proven studs. If he delivers even half of what Selwood did in their first premiership then we'll be laughing all the way to number 17.

Luke Shuey-esque if you may Harks?

Not sure if this is entirely accurate (not to sell Lucas short).
He will be a tremendous link player for you and has a significantly better mark than Shuey.
I suppose though that it is these guys that both our club wants penetrating the forward 50.
Look forward to seeing what he's capable of and he should be a consistent player in your team sooner rather than later.

:thumbsu::thumbsu:

this should be the mentality of all CFC supporters. it is a shame when we see people who question lucas' ability. maybe they forget he has only played 11 games in 2 years due to injury, or that he is only 20 years old

If someone is able to post videos from the intraclub match, that would be awesome. I had big wraps on Sugar back when he joined us and I was a bit disappointed that he went down with injuries and took a year and a half to come back from them.

I am looking forward to him getting out there this year and really killing them.

Yes I agree he would not have been a high draft pick. Lucas is a couple years younger also and like you said has size so can play multiple positions. I expect both these guys make a claim this year in the 22 and play most of the season if they have had a good pre season.

you see when you are looking out to sea eg West to see what the swell is like the sun will always be to the north so having a decent right eyebrow helps decrease the glare. Otherwise all other hair is obsolete. no chest hair, back/shoulder hair, legs are smoothe etc etc. We are modern well landscaped men. You East coasters will never understand

His disposal was average that day. Had one shocker where he tried to do a one-two with Murph, held it too long and ended up handballing it out of bounds on the full. Imagine if Brock did that!

Was very confident though and was selling candy, going for long runs and his team mates were looking to give the ball to him.
