Karl Langdon teaches Eddie a lesson on Poaching Contracted players

Once Collingwood traded pick 14 for Jolly - there was never really going to be a serious offer to St Kilda for Ball was there
Unless a player good enough to play in a premiership as well as pick 30, incidently being Balls actual price, is serious. Or unless trying to upgrade that same pick by trading a player subsequently good enough to play in a premiership was a gag.

FFS, Ball left because he wasn't part of the premiership plans and St Kilda refused a sensible offer - just like Port Adelaide half a decade earlier.

correct, but if you make a statement like his, just get your facts right as your club (in fact all clubs) have done it as well...

I never denied that Collingwood or any other club has done it. I simply said that Eddie shouldn't have to bear a cross for any sins of the past, as well as differentiating between what went on with Davis (offers made and agreed upon in season) and the supposed "poaching" of Wirrpanda (nothing more than a phone call to guage interest as far as we know, which could have happened at the end of the season while he was still in contract, as contracted players aren't untradeable).

in other words suck it up princess Eddie and get on with the job you pompous knob :p

You say this as though Eddie McGuire's comments and actions are always representative of the thoughts and feelings of every Collingwood supporter.

agreed but coming out and slamming GWS for doing what all the clubs have done in the past/present and future is stupid and opens the club up to this type of shite.

At the end of the day all clubs agreed to let both the GC and GWS join the competition, if Eddie or any other Pesident was stupid enough to think this would not occur then why did they agree to it?

no, I did it for a bit of a laugh...

Mick Malthouse was and is a coach.
There are no rules regarding poaching another clubs coach.
Totally different situation.
There are specific rules put in place for GWS.
The rules GWS have broken were put in place to protect the established clubs during the season proper.

A couple of points - when did the AFL introduce the rule ?

Surely the point is that this has been made public - sure all clubs probably talk to players during seasons (at least to their managers). But in this case the AFL has clear evidence of it (lets not pretend we are all stupid and believe no understanding has been reached) and yet the AFL does nothing. If it was Collingwood, North, Cats etc do we really believe the AFL wouldn't investigate ?

Eddie was a broadcast journalist who had no official involvement with the Collingwood Football Club at that time as far as I'm aware. Shall we go back in history and drag up every instance of every other club being possibly unethical, and hang it on their current president and administration?

Maybe you should know more about your President

(A passionate and devoted Collingwood fan since childhood, Eddie McGuire became president of the club in 1998, and as president saw his beloved Magpies make the 2002 and 2003 AFL Grand Finals.)

Ouch, well done 58 :thumbsu:

Is 1998 before 1993? Or did Ed get in his Tardis to go back in time to help recruit Buckley?

So you agree with who you quoted then, since buckley came to us years before Eddie became president?

Let he who hasn't sinned....

Ed should have known better. Everyone knows he lured Malthouse with a massive contract offer when he was still under contract to the Eagles.

Actually, not well done at all

I've been a passionate and devoted Collingwood fan since childhood as well. That doesn't mean I've got any official role with the club though, and neither did Eddie McGuire when the deal was struck in 1993 for to Buckley come to the club as a player.

wtf......

there are no facts so far
Karl langdon was told by who, 2nd hand 3rd hand?
Mick malthouse was supposed to have called, if it did happen how are we to know eddie knew of this?
How is Eddie responsible for a conversation that Mick Malthouse might of or might not have had?

We are all responsible for our own actions how the **** is Eddie responsible for every conversation that any collingwood official or player has?

If the conversation did happen Malthouse is responsible and I am sure that being Wirrupinda coach for many years they built quite a strong rapport, all wirrupunda had to say was, mate its wrong for you to contact me, if your interested go through the correct process....

I wasn't refering to anything with Buckley, the post you mentioned Eddie was when Malthouse was trying to get Wirrapunda to the Maggies. 2001?

Yeah Eddie.... shut up and stop doing your job on a talk radio show. Stop highlighting clear breaches of the rules, simply because the coach of your club may have made a casual phone call to someone on the toilet. Stop talking sense about... well... everything, like you do every morning on the Hot Breakfast. The anti-Collingwood brigade on BigFooty demands that you stop! I'm sure that will send a shudder up your spine, Ed!

Or just keep doing what you're doing and let the irrelevant plebs bitch and moan in an attempt to convince ourselves we actually matter in such discussions.
