Keep your expectations high

I think Polec and Hall will make a considerable difference to our midfield next year.
The backflipping emo rat can wallow in self pity for it’s his miss. Not ours. Time will tell on this.
I still firmly believe we can be a contender next year with a fit side.
Why didn't we offer a future 3rd round pick for Scully? He's exactly what we need - An Olympic runner who can find the ball. I've been burning incest candles all afternoon to calm myself down. And then I se Nathan Lyons take 4 wickets in 6 balls against some of the best Batmans in the world. I know I've been accused of wearing my arm in my sleeve, but please, how much more can I be expected to take?

Okay, pause and ask yourself this, is there that much difference between Higgo & the lying rat?

IMO, Higgo's disposal makes him the better player of the pair, so think about this.

If LDU can turn the corner quicker than expected and deliver in the guts, then we can plonk Higgins on the wing and it will make no differences to our expectations pre-Gaff.

The same applies with a fit Ben Jacobs in the side. Keep your expectations high folks.

Or you could simply say plonk Dyson in the guts. I'll take Higgo all day everyday over Gaff. Yeah I might be biased, but who gives a flying F.

Better than Wells. Wells had too many passes going over the head of players. Higgo just lowers his eyes like Boomer and hits the target

Another shinbone that lowers his eyes and hits targets very will is none other than froggy D. Goes under the radar a bit, but reckon the rest of the footy world will sit up and take note next year!

Looking at our best 22, Gaff would have been a boon in some aspects but he would have disrupted the hierarchy in another way which we would have had to resolve imo by pushing Higgins forward.

Our best midfield still has Cunnington and Jacobs in the middle. If Polec and Hall go on the wings then the best 18 has one more position, that would have been Gaff or Higgins. I don't think Polec/Hall play any other role.

Our rotation becomes Dumont, Anderson, McDonald and Ahern. We also have LDU, Walker and the soon to be acquired Thomas and Scott that come into the picture a little down the track.

If we push Higgins out of the midfield, Gaff would have been a good pickup but he pushes Dumont and Ahern down. It is why I think Kelly is the far more critical target. Higgins is 30 now, still think he has some good footy to play but not sure how much. Kelly coming in gets us the same type of damaging player for a long period of time and it gives the option to push Higgins forward as well to do more damage.

If we can get Kelly, I think our midfield is in a great position.

Reckon Kyron will go alright next year too!

i suspect with kyrons shoulder reco last year he is prolly 18 months off exploding onto the scene.
Would like to see how he goes pre season, heard on FB he's in WA training with mates. Wait and see. Looking forward to see how they all come back.

Higgins shits all over the lying rat. Not only can Higgins win his own ball, he is far more creative then the lying rat campaigner, lying rat is purely a finisher. Higgins is a complete footballer.

Yes, there is.

If I had only Higgo and Gaff to choose from to lineup for a set shot on goal to win the game, I'd choose Higgo.

Higgo is more reliable, works harder and is seriously a complete footballer. Can kick goals, pass to space, win ball and literally do anything a midfielder can do.

Gaff would be almost useless in the guts. He can't win enough hard ball and be as influential on the outside as well. Come to think of it, he actually presents an issue to our structures which requires a lot of players to rotate.

Because not many people can play footy with one foot! I even think Hawthorn are out of their depth on this one. GWS is run by the AFL, im almost certain that they would have the best opinion and diagnosis money can buy, if their report says his ankle injury leaves his tibia and his tarsals rubbing bone on bone, he will have a fused ankle by the time he is 28! Not even Hawthorn can get this ankle right! Waste of list space! Poor campaigner

I am extremely excited to see the likes of Sympkin, EVW, LDU, Ahern, Jed etc plus JACOBS take it another level next year. Then we have the likes of Wood and Garner who IF stay on the park get super fit before 2019 they are capable of being the X-Factor we need. Have not even seen the ceiling of these boys yet

Then we have BBB with another full pre-season, Our captain no doubt is going to become one of the best power forwards in the comp and more

You add the speed and dash of Polec, Pittard, Hall etc we SHOULD be in finals next year!

Wrong candles

Our only options are we:

Go all the way.

Finish top 4.

Scrape into the 8.

The third option should not be said. Mediocrity has to stop appearing.

High expectations, here we go, AFL .Premiers, VFL Premiers and AFLW Premiers. We can also start with a win in preseason comp JLT! Can only go down from there.

The fact that there is no consensus in the best 22 thread says it all.

BF posters have included about 30 players and their actual positions are scattered.

All this suggests we have legitimate depth, plenty of rotations during games and can manage players and injury during the season. Teams now have to put up with 5 day breaks.

No point making the finals like in recent seasons where the Swans, Cats and Hawks are cooked.

How many players can you name that can either be part of the midfield rotations or either play inside, outside and have stints forward?

Unless we have organic improvement across the list with a few popping up a couple of levels, then we will remain mid table in 2019.

We need Garner and Jacons fit and firing to be a top 4 contender and we need changes to the current personnel in some positions. I believe we will be better placed in 2020 to make top 4 if we use 2019 as the launching pad.

My Round 1 2019 team:(assuming all fit)

Williams BMac Daw
Pittard Tarrant EVW
JMac Cunners Polec
Walker Brown JZ
Simpkin Wood Higgins

Goldy Ahern Jacobs

Hall, Tyson, Dumont, Anderson

Emerg amongst: LDU, LMac, Thompson, JMac, Turner, Zuhraar, Wright and Atley to earn their spots. Hunter stiff but BMac needs to play so he's back up only. Garner has missed too much footy so he starts in the seconds.

Scott, Thomas, Xerri, Larkey and Watson to continue to develop in the VFL with the occasional game in the seniors.

If everyone is for and healthy there is some good depth in the list.
Hopefully this pushes the guys to be super competitive for spots which will increase the performance.
All looks good

My great expectations next year are centred squarely on Ahern and Jy. These two guys are really well set up to take the next step. Ahern had his career best game, kinda ironically, against WC.He, then, proceeded to fall off the edge of a cliff. This, I think, was the result of more focus from the opposition and generally just running out of steam in his first “proper” season. A good pre-season and he should be cherry ripe. As for Jy - third season coming up, has shown sublime glimpses already, he must be barking at the gate and ready to go...

I know football is a team sport that is supported by whole families, but I think you might be taking it too far.

A game the whole family can play, you take it to a whole new level.

I think Jy will benefit from the midfield and wing depth we've added. Really think he's suited more as a forward that floats up field rather than as a true mid.

I think the rat will be a shadow of his former self - doesn’t look like he’s made of sterner stuff.

We have a multitude of options through the middle and hopefully we mix it up to keep other teams guessing.

The youth coming through is exciting and an expected upward curve would be beneficial to the team as a whole.

We need over 6 players going through there getting 20 plus touches a game - let other teams chase us for once

Cunners, Higgo, and Dumont did last year. Jed and BJ were on 19 and should build on this. Polec will, averaged 25 last year.

Add in Ahern who also averaged above 20 off a small base and DT who averaged 20 with the Dees and that gives us 8 that we can choose from!
