Congratulations to Channel Ten's Kelli Underwood who is set to become the first woman to commentate on an AFL match during todays Crows v Geelong game.

She's 31, first commentated on football on 3AW in 2005. Is originally from Adelaide but been working in Melbourne. Has come over early to familiarise herself with the Crows players.

Has an interest in sports commentating generally. Good luck to her. She is likely to be better than some of the dud men commentating.

Channel Ten are downplaying the fact she's a woman and saying it's based on ability. Not guaranteed to become a regular at this stage.

This is the best one I could find

She could shriek like a banshee for 90mins non-stop and still be light years in front of Walls, McAvaney, Watson and the bloody Ox.

I bet she'll do really well. Nerves are expected but let's face it, the standard shown by the current commentary fraternity is terrible, it'll be great to listen to a fresh voice, not looking to pump themselves up or pump their clients up. I want listenable, intelligent people calling the game. People who SPEAK ENGLISH PROPERLY. From what i've seen, Kelli will do well in this respect. Good luck to her, and hopefully it sparks a revolution in footy media that puts less focus on foody personalities and larrikins, and more on professionals who do the caper justice.

It will sound strange hearing a female call the footy though!

It certainly does......................

I can't help it, she sounds like she has a peg on her nose, or maybe a head cold.

The only way it could be worse is if it was Rosanne or the nanny.

Agreed with the above two comments, she is quite possibly the worst commentator I have ever heard (and it's nothing to do with the fact she's a woman, she has just got an really annoying voice and constantly making irrelevant and annoying comments)
