Will be in Saturday's West. Ken Casellas has been told he'll no longer be required by ABC Radio for the Eagles and Dockers games.

He is getting on a bit (and had a heart attack 2 years ago that had clinically dead for 30 secs) but can't comprehend listening to their coverage without his little stat attacks...another bit of my youth gone. He'll be replaced by championdata people. It was getting hard enough as it was to listen to ABC Perth's coverage with two dicks Wheeldon and Middlemas they have calling the games now.

I don't get it. Why?

He is one of the last of the old fashioned stats-guys. A shame to see him go.

I noticed they had James Clement and Brad Wira on their coverage last week. Strange for me to say this, but it actually made me miss Ken Judge.

Surely Wheeldon and his cronies don't think a computer can provide the detail that Ken's statistics did. He was able to tell you how many kicks were effective, how many were turned over and things like the number of boundary throw-ins etc, etc. Yet another example of Wheeldon being too big for his boots. The ABC somehow moved him into Mitchell's job when he left. He has become a painful knob with that nasally voice and the need to Yeeeeeeeelllllll instead of commentate. The young bloke Corban Middlemass is excellent. Has a lot of potential unlike CW.

Pretty sure I'm right in saying 6PR's ratings for the footy are well ahead of the ABC's.[/quote

You're right. I had to laugh when I heard last year that for the first time in living memory 6PR smashed the ABC in the ratings. Aunty had never lost a survey to their commercial rival for over 20 years. Mitchell goes and Wheeldon - or as I like to call him, Wheelybin - takes over and the place falls apart. If the ABC had any sense they would get Mitchell back ASAP and ditch Wheeldon who's ego is becoming too much to bear!

Clint has always been a bit of a twat. He did start off in commerical television after all. Good call on the ego.

Corben is getting there but his ignorance to anything non-AFL, cricket or basketball grates on me..especially when it comes to the A-League. As an ABC sports caller you need to have a pretty broad knowledge and/or at least do your research. When I listen to these two I'm not educated on sports I'm not full bottle on or follow the closely (cricket for example). When I used to listen to Mitchell and sometimes FOreman at least I was educated a little.

Sigh, I'll always miss the good old days with Wally Foreman, Glenn Mitchell, Ken Casellas and even Ken Judge although a lot of people don't like him.

Give him a bit of time, he's only 22 years old (or close to it).

From the article in saturday's west Casellas confirmed the decision was made by ABC honchos in Sydney and it was left to Wheeldon to deliver the bad news.
