I'm certainly not having a go at him but did anybody else think that Kennedy dropped/missed a few too many marks last night? We know he can take strong grabs but last night he just seemed incapable of holding onto anything. Was it poor delivery, good defending or just an off night?

I know he is (along with Lecras) our best forward and he's second in the Coleman at the moment but I think if he was just able to hold on to a few of those marks last night he might have had that exceptional "break out" game that he hasn't really had yet. I don't expect him to dominate like Jon Brown but I think he's capable of being an A grade, top 50 player in the league if he can just improve 10-20% on games like last night.

Maybe I'm completely "off the mark" ;) but was curious to see if anyone agreed with what I noticed. If he can dominate a game or two it will go a long way to putting our season back on track.

I was literally thinking about making this thread half an hour ago.

Completely agree. I think his marking this year has been well below his standards. However his shots on goal have been perfect. Perhaps hes been spending more time on that than his marking and as a consequence ones gotten better while the other has tapered off.

Good to see someone agrees I thought I was gonna get roasted.

He's had 22 marks this year with 7 inside 50 from pretty poor delivery so that's actually a pretty decent output. If he just took a couple more of those 50/50 ones inside 50 each game and converted them then he would be a star.

I would also love to see him just dominate a game one day. 15 marks, 6 goals, something like that. I think he's certainly capable.

Agreed again. If hes to become a champion which imo looks like happening (but then I ****en love the bloke) he has to start having the odd big game like that.

Tough conditions with a wet ball trying to take a mark out in front in your palms. Kennedy's marking is his best attribute..lecras and brown missed a few sitters as well.

He's had a pretty tough start to the year with the way we've been playing, not exactly suited to getting a lot of marks, but he has been missing a couple.

Has kicked multiples every game this year though without being a standout, which is a good sign. Only a matter of time until he kicks a big bag I hope.

Yeah, he's been dropping a few.

He's getting into the right position to take the marks, but his hands are just letting him down. He's not far away, though. Just needs to clunk a few and he'll start having some big games.

Been good, but not great.

He drops a few but no where near as many as Mitch Brown.

Kennedy will be at his best around 26-27 I think, when he's a bit more savvy.

This.

I'm actually more worried about Mitch Brown than Kennedy and his marking. He's ok as a chest mark but with his hands straight out he seems to have lost a bit of awareness. Hopefully it'll come back but he seemed a much better mark as a first gamer than he does now.

Brown just thinks too far ahead

Remember when I took that home wine-making course and I forgot how to drive?

He will do his shoulder one day the way he dives for marks is suicidal.

I was thinking the same thing. I love watching him take those dive-for-it grabs from 10cm off the ground, but if you ever say that he'll do his shoulder again, I promise you now I'll hunt you down. ;)

I think Brown will come good in a few years time as a forward. Remember Kennedy was pretty bad his first few seasons.

Brown moves pretty well and is starting to impact a bit more.

As for Kennedy's marking, he had a good night with a couple of highlighted misses as they were sitters. Ball was slippery so you could forgive him 1-2 dropped ones.

Kicked 11.1 for the season too, accuracy. :thumbsu:

The one he missed was against Essendon, attempted to dribble it along the ground from the pocket.

Holy crap, didn't realise he was that accurate

On his marking last night the dew didn't help marking, as witnessed by the number of fumbles by the players even in just general ball handling

When did he miss? :( I wanted him to keep that going. I remember last year after one game a whole group of people seemed to freak out over his set shots and how they weren't up to scratch.

It's a shame he drops some of those simple marks because he works harder than anyone to put himself in that position to recieve the ball... and 50% of the time the delivery is crap so he doesnt have the opportunity to mark it. I don't think it's anything to worry about.

Kennedy wasn't that bad at Carlton. he was just played out of position and this messed with his game. As soon as he was de-Carltonised he was good to go and has been awesome since being in the blue and gold.
