Just read on the Hawks site that Jeff Kennett is taking over from Ian Dicker next year. Personally i think Kennett would be ******** mainly because i don't like him  . What do you think?

He is not taking over at this stage. He will need to be elected by the members on December 14. Could very well be opposed.

Expanding from Grendel's point. We've got to look at him and what he could do for our club. From reading here and on HHQ there seems to be a little bit of resentment towards him during his days of premier which really shouldn't come into the footy dicussions of it, because the fact is it comes down to whether you think he has the right stuff to lead our club.

I personally think this is one of the better things to happen to our club in recent years.

Congratulations are in order - so i'll give them.

All POLITICS aside. This is Football and your the Hawthorn Football Club.

As far as the decision goes it gives you a powerful figure, media attention and the influence and money that come with such a person. He loves the club and is in it for the club - i'm sure he could get paid large amounts of money to be doing other things.

A good day for your club i would have thought - perhaps too many people mix up the politics with the personalities. All the crap aside, your club is better for it. So congrats.

As a premier i despised him as most country Victorians did (not that Labour are any better BTW) but as someone has already said ,this is about the Hawthorn FC not politics & at this point in our history ,i couldn't think of anyone better to lead us into the future. Not only does he have a ruthless business nous but his high profile can only be an advantage to us.I'd imagine he wouldn't hesitate to make the hard decisions no matter who was offended & that's something i think we can't say about our previous men at the top .He sacked 5000 SEC workers FFS & didn't blink an eye so sentiment would never come into anything.

He won't do a good job, because you don't like him?

Your ONE and ONLY argument for questioning the appointment is that you don't like him.

I don't think I can counter that argument in any way, shape or form so I'll just leave it there

I fear that just like John Elliot, he'll try to turn the club into his own personal shrine. (He is after all, above all else, an egotist.)

A few of his statements in the Age today could imply that he plans changes for change's sake.

I suspect that the club is in a much worse financial position than it lets on, and can't afford to lose its "family club" image because of Jeff's planned gimmicks.

This is a serious threat to the clubs future.

The club will grow just by having Kennent as President. Hawthorn has the chance to possibly overtake the likes of Richmond and Carlton as a powerhouse and bridge the gap with Essendon, and Collingwood although ever catching them will be impossible.

Jeff Kennent will be fantastic for the clubn dont you worry about that.

cheers

Jeff is by far the best man for the job.

Next year we will easliy break 35 000 members under his regime once elected, but more importantly he will rattle a few cages, he will bring a winning culture back to the club and will give them national no make that global exposure

Lets not let politics get involved in football, he is the best man for the job.

If he doesnt get in, we will be the laughing stock of the competition, look at Eddie, they had this much debate about electing Mcguire to the post of Collingwood president. In fact there was talk of "conflict of interest" as channel 7 had the rights to football and Eddie was a key member of channel 9 team. Did it do them well...of course.

Prior to Eddie Collingwood were going broke and were rotting in the bottom 4, in there wildest dreams were they expected to play in the finals within the next 3 years let alone a grand final.

Fast Forward 3 years and Collingwood lose the grand final by a kick and a half. They are now one of the financial powerhouses of the competition.

Jeff can do this for us, we are already financially strong, represent an area with a very large amount of support, and have a young and emerging list.

By all means he is a good choice especially NOW.

He has the right mix as well in terms of success on and off the field, Kennett obviously is aware of the mass amount of fans who have been starved of success over the last 10 years, he knows that once we get it right on the field the cash will come flying in. He is a supporter to you know, he hates Essendon and pines for the times when Hawthorn was the envy of all bar none.

So lets put politics aside, if there was anytime when the Hawthorn army should be excited it NOW!!!!!

Ian Dicker has been a fantastic president and I wish him well-I hope he will still be involved within the club ranks, but we are in a transitional stage, we needed change. We needed a face.

The time is NOW ladies and gentlemen, if you want to see Hawthorn prosper and become a giant of the competition vote Kennett, if you want to continue to be the laughing stock of everyone within the football world, by all means bring on an alternative.

For christ sake why can everyone see this bar a few ignorant Hawthorn fans, Jeff will become a fantastic president and will make Hawthorn a super power once again, kids will want to become Hawthorn fans again under Jeff!!!!!!

Did I mention Jeff's professionalism and how great he is with the media.

It didn't grow, it was already huge. He are not.

Also, McGuire is much less divisive than Kennett.
Correct, but look at Collingwood memberships before and after Eddie's announcement.

While not a "huge club" we are not "tiny" ourselves.

30 000 ish members and I think I read somewhere around 400 000 fans, thats not bad for the 3rd worst performing club over the last 10 years in the AFL.

Jeff could preside over a golden era of our club, I would love the 1980's to occur all over again. Would you?

That would always have more to do with whether people think they can win the premiership.

People here seem to think that all the club has to do is jump up and down saying, "LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!" and it will gain supporters.

There has to be abit of that "LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!"

Why do you think there is such a large discrepancy in membership totals for the Victorian clubs, last year Collingwood probably had more members then both the Roos and Dogs combined.

There are many reasons why Collingwood is popular while North is not. You don't seriously think it's because of a century of presidential egotism, do you?
