It might be in vogue to rack up assists but giving up the opportunity to score for another possession is not doing the 1 percenters, or the team thing. The correct thing to do is put the ball between the big sticks.

Liam Jones, you need the practice anyway mate, be a bit 'selfish' and kick the goal yourself.

Luke Dalhaus, don't bother passing to blokes when you are on a dash and on the 50. Have a ping, the reason you are in the team is because half the blokes that you can pass the ball to have been so pathetic this year and inept at scoring themselves.


Don't give it to the senior players in this sort of scenario. They are as equally likely to let us down and have done so many times before. I want to see whether or not you guys are any different. Are Jones, Dalhaus, Stack etc the types to look up and go 'BANG!' when it counts, or will they shirk it under the guise of doing the 'team thing?'

The worst part about that was he had a player on his outside (Gia?) that he should have given to straight away.
Really think Jones is developing quite well though.

Rubbish re Dahlhaus. He did the right thing with the short pass inside fifty on both occasions. We'd all be on his back if he had a shot and missed instead.

LOL. Yeah, love the opening post, our boys have gotta back themselves. So many times we don't even end up having a shot because they pass it off when in range and it all gets messed up. Only criticism on Dahlhaus game. Can he kick it 50?

That's a question mark less than a criticism. I don't expect he has a 55m+ kick on him but I maintain that both times he went inside fifty he made the right decision to pass to the leading player.

A 10m kick to a guy on a hard lead under the pump when there is space behind is not the best option. It might fit within what coaches love to see and the idea of playing the percentages but you still need to have a goal scoring mind set.

That is the point of my post, too many of our players over do it when in scoring positions. It is not the right option to give up an opportunity for a score by passing it off when you yourself have the ball in hand and are within range.

Dalhaus was good on debut, I'm not picking holes in his game so no need to get defensive about the comments. They all have been doing it, even last year, to my frustration. I want to kids to show us they are hungry and willing to wear the responsibility of putting it through the big sticks. There is no point in coughing it up by passing it to blokes who are just as likely to drop the mark, or miss the shot.

It's not just a problem confined to younger blokes, I remember a moment where we had it in the forward 50 and were doing a zillion handballs, Cross got it and was in best position to have a shot, and immediately handballed it to someone else who got tackled.

Cross' unwillingness to kick sometimes is infuriating.

Comes with confidence and experience no doubt, but I do agree in some instances, that the players with the better kicking skills should be looking to take more responsibility for the scoreboard pressure.

Stack, Jones and these types just need to back their skills more and make better decisions about when to pass and when to take responsibility.

Jones has good dukes, decent leg speed and a great work ethic though. Agree with other posters, we've found ourselves a potentially strong long termkey forward, just got to learn to use him better and get him to more contests.
