reckon curnow might slip to carlton at 8? i reckon its a good chance. have heard essendon will take francis, and probably parish if he's there?

GC wouldn't take curnow now surely? and melbourne should take weideman over him at 7?

Hey Knightmare,
As a GWS fan I see you're higher on Hopper and Kennedy than most and have them 'assumed' bids 4 and 6 which would cripple our chances of picking up Himmelburg. Flynn etc.

1) Is that what you actually expect come draft day?
2) Also, is it in light of the what's happening with Curnow's drunkeness and Weitering's poor testing or did you decide those spots before that?
3) Because people are saying our 'trade partners' Carlton, Demons, Adelaide etc. will pass because of backhand agreement and we should be able to pick up both past pick 10? Which would give us credit for other academy players.

My phantom draft is what I'm expecting clubs do on draft day - with a complete disregard for my own personal opinions.

Weitering's draft position won't be affected and will remain number one, Curnow may drop but is still a first round selection. As for where I rate them in my power rankings. Curnow I've mostly rated lower with his finals performances with his limited mobility shown, but also a lack of certainty of a best position having never proven himself as a midfielder (people speculate he can play midfield where he hasn't had the chance to play this season) and up forward as an undersized type I'm still not sure of a best position, then his numbers overall have been mild without being dominant, so I can't justify rating him as high as his projected draft position suggests he should. As for Weitering I'm not convinced he'll be the best in the draft, I'm just not seeing any recent key defender who has been that best player in the draft and I'm increasingly high on Hopper and Oliver as talents. A further thing with Weitering in his interviews, he just doesn't feel like one of those better few in the game players, I also don't sense that extreme hunger to be great, and he seems like a general professional but I think he'll may be satisfied with being very good more so than great.

Hopper and Kennedy will absolutely require top 10 selections to take and Essendon are expected to bid on both. They need those dominant contested ball winning mids and both are better than the available alternatives.

It's a possibility Curnow slides to Carlton but Essendon I still see as in the mix and at this stage until I hear otherwise taking him.

Gold Coast could do anything and have been relatively silent. Curnow or Weideman if there would both be suitable fits as they need both key forwards and midfielders.

And Melbourne with that second pick probably take the leftover of the higher rated players - so one of Parish/Curnow/Weideman in some order, or Oliver if they or Essendon haven't taken him.

yeah i mean i cant see GC taking a player with a public alcohol related issue so close to the harley bennell incident. would be pretty hypocritical

I'd agree with that theory and expect the same with Gold Coast surely looking to turn around their club culture and bring in the best quality of people.

Don't you mean Weideman tested poorly?

This may have been asked, but if you had to combine a top 20 ranking of this years crop + last years, what would it be?
that is, how you rated last years talent before the draft, not how you rate them now

Corey Wagner to Richmond a chance according to Twoomey. Have you heard anything hear KM?

I'm sure I've done similar earlier in the thread at various times but for an update:
Clayton Oliver (VIC – MID)
Jacob Hopper (NSW - GWS ACADEMY - MID)
Jacob Weitering (VIC – KPD)
Christian Petracca (VIC – Mid/Fwd)
Angus Brayshaw (VIC – Mid)
Isaac Heeney (Syd – Academy - NSW – Mid)
Callum Mills (NSW - SYDNEY ACADEMY – MID)
Darcy Moore (Coll - F/S – VIC – KPF/KPD)
Patrick McCartin (VIC - KPF)
Joshua Schache (VIC – KPF)
Reece McKenzie (VIC – KPF)
Ben Keays (QLD – BRISBANE ACADEMY – MID/FWD)
Connor Blakely (WA – Mid)
Matthew Kennedy (NSW - GWS ACADEMY – MID/FWD)
Peter Wright (VIC - KPF/Ruck)
Jarrod Pickett (WA – Mid/Fwd)
Jake Lever (VIC – KPD)
Jayden Laverde (VIC – Util)
Kyle Langford (VIC – Util)
Jack Steele (GWS - Academy - NSW – Mid/Fwd)

Corey Wagner to Richmond a chance according to Twoomey. Have you heard anything hear KM?

Richmond are one of a few clubs who are said to have some interest in Wagner, so Richmond could plausibly look at him with one of the clubs later picks or bid on him if Brisbane nominate him.

Any info on Redman? Never heard of him before tonight. Is 25(29) too early for him to go?

Redman is a tall utility from SA. Has shown glimpses of promise and created some buzz during the u18 championships. A pick inside the 20s is a touch to early for me, but not grossly as someone I have been expecting to see feature in the 30s/40s. Sounds like he has chances in the late 20s.

Hi KM, love your effort.

Can I ask how many times you have seen both Oliver and Weideman play (either live or on video)?

Oliver I've seen play regularly through the TAC Cup and took notice of from the half way point and tracked late season and through the finals where he has been absolutely exceptional. Weideman I've seen both last year and this year through the TAC Cup prior to injury.
I've seen them both play roughly 5-6 times live each.

You had DeGoey at number 1 last time, now he's not even on your list?

Are you really that worried about people having a go at you about perceived bias?

List based on his rankings before the draft, he didn't know De Goey would be a Collingwood player then :p
Got it, my bad. I'll pay that. I actually remember KM being pretty underwhelmed with JDG before last years draft.

Hey KM,

What are your thoughts on WA's Jesse Glass-McCasker?
I've only seen his highlights package and he seems a great ready of the play and intercept mark but we got no glimpse of his disposal by foot other than two shocking kicks on the run.

I'm thinking/hoping Hawthorn goes with Hibberd with their first, Bonner with their second and either a McCasker or Sam Skinner with their third.
I'm not convinced we should be using a first round pick on a boom or bust type in Kieran Collins and would rather a key defender with a later pick.

On Skinner, what is he like as a kpd? Only seen highlights of him playing forward.

Cheers mate, another year nearly done

Glass-McCasker is worth consideration late/rookie draft for a club looking for a key defender to have developing. Nice height/size, good athleticism and can shut down reasonably so there is something to work with. Not a regular intercept mark/intercepter but that's the next stage in his development and something where if he can do that more often, he can be legit.

Hibberd is a shot and Hawthorn surely go for a tall somewhere.

As for Skinner. He plays both forward and back, but probably hasn't dominated enough to be a forward so probably eventually develops into a key defender, which happens with many who play forward as juniors.

Are you going to do one last adjustment before Tuesday KM, or is this your final order?

Without question. Will update tomorrow and late afternoon on draft day.
