I don't know, I always see retirement as a concession that you can't do it anymore. He certainly can still do it, though. Personally, if I was performing like that, I'd be enjoying it and want to keep on going.

10 batsmen have scored 1000 runs in loses and averaged over 40. 15 if you change it to 500. and the two guys on top sometimes get called selfish....

this might be my favourite statsguru page. It's so so so hard to come out with good batting numbers when your team is losing.

Sangakarra, Dravid then Tendulkar. For me, he's the second best batsman in the history of cricket and definitely the best while I have been alive.

A huge shame, but full credit to him for bowing out while on top. So underrated for so long.

Sangakkara has 9086 runs @ 69.35 when not keeping. Which is a clear 2nd place behind Bradman for players that have played more than 20 tests and nearly 10 more than Tendulkar. He's arguably the best pure bat since Bradman.

Don't think that's a very useful basis for comparison, Sanga has played 144 innings v Tendulkar's 329 innings.

Like Kallis, hasn't got the true recognition he deserves IMO.

One of the best and most likable people in world Cricket. Our Australians could learn a thing or two from him too.
