Kurt Tippett - what will be the trade?

Remove this Banner Ad

my views are based on what I have heard and read in various interviews this year, Kurt has mentioned on numerous occassions that he has purchased a home and that his GF is moving to Adel

Players such as Maric has come out and said that he believes Kurt will stay

Lynch said during the commetary of the Adel v Tigers game at the GC that it would be difficult to lure Kurt away from Adel

however Wall E is right until pen goe on paper its all specualtion, however reading in between the lines I do not believe that money will be the deciding factor. Like Beams who chosed to stay at the Pies instead of returning home to the GC the opportunity for success was the key factor, I believe (my opinion) Kurt will also weight success heavily in his decision making.

Adel is on the cusp of a successful period

His not exactly going to come out and say he is off to the Coast in 2011 , he will be burned at the stake .

But i would like to know your opinion on why he has'nt signed a new deal ?? , if its not money or the urge to go home , what is it??

It's really not rocket science. You don't sign mid year, 18 months before your current contract has expired. Simple. Let alone when you can use the GC and their attempts, coupled with your newfound potential star status, to up your contract worth.
He will re-sign at the end of this season, bet ya mother on it.
Then this thread can bugger off.

If GC don't get another marquee player interested then I'd be very worried about the AFL interfering, like it is suspected they did to get Lockett to Sydney.

They don't want to wait 3 years, they want there to be a lot of hype in SEQ and drawcards to get people through the gate and watching on TV.

suspicion? hes just saying its in the AFL's interest to have a star up there from the start and not have them rock bottom for 4-5 years waiting for all the draftee's to come through, nothing new.

Pretty much, rumour was in the middle of trade talks between St Kilda and other clubs out of nowhere he ended up going to Sydney. Rumour at the time was the AFL got "involved" and helped make sure he got to Sydney in a Carlton-like brown paper bag arrangement that of course would never be investigated or count towards the salary cap.

They did the same thing with that NRL person but of course, it didn't really impact any other club so they didn't need to sweep it under the rug.

I think it is vitally important for the Crows to get him to commit to an agreement and soon before the AFL gets involved because I never thought Plugger would ever leave Melbourne, if he can be poached, anyone can.

I think it would help GC tremendously to have a marquee player, of course, everyone would prefer that player to want to go willingly. It would make a huge difference for the club in the establishment years. It would be the drawcard Buddy is for Hawthorn, the thousands that come out of nowhere to just see that marquee player play. There are not a lot of potential drawcards like that.

wish all you want I am supremely confident the deal will be done at season end

start looking else where

What about 3 way trade.

Pav + Freos 1st rounder to Crows

Tippett to Gold Coast

Pick 2 and 13 to Freo

No way no chance no hope

Pav was good but his graph is on a downward spiral Kurt's graph has not even left the page yet

Kurt will go to the Gold Coast

For a holliday before comming home to Adelaide for pre season

Wish for what ??

Adelaide fans say he is not money hungry and there is no urge to come back to the Coast , so why has'nt he signed a new contract???

The reason he has not signed a contract yet is mainly because the crows season is very much still alive and it has been well documented by the club and Kurt himself that all parties will sit down at the end of the season and discuss his contract then. This itself is a big indication from Kurt that he will be staying with the crows for the short-medium term, especially because he is still contracted for next season, and the fact that he wants to talk about his contract now shows his intent in staying.

Mate what do you want to hear? You're acting like you havent seen this kind of stuff posted in here before, it's been said ad infinitum from many posters including myself:

We're in a finals series at the moment up to our eyeballs, why not let this issue lie until we're out? Pretty sure no-one much else cares at the moment.

Tippett will be coming,

but rumour circulating around melbourne tonight is one G.Ablett jr has been offered 10mil for 5 years and is 90% committeed to the deal.

Will surface in the papers this weekend or early next week.

hence the reason he has not signed with the cats

If i was Kurt Tippett i wouldnt sign yet either even if if i knew i was gonna stay with the Crows. Hes getting better by the game and his contract is getting juicier and juicier.

Tippett's manager has categorically said that Kurt will not leave the Crows, he is simply maximising his value by playing out the rest of the season before negotiating. Said he would be failing in his duty as someone who is supposed to secure the best deal for Kurt if he recommended signing at the start of 2009.

I hope all of this ends before the start of pre season one way or the other. This topic is wearing thin. If this is a preview of what free agency will be, I pray it never happens.

Look, make no mistake I am genuinely looking forward to seeing a team on the GC. But this fist full of cash raiding of players is leaving me with a very bad taste in my mouth similar to what I imagine arse would be. The way this is all unfolding just doesn't sit well with me, that all I'm saying.

The real concern will be what concessions are put in place for WS if GC can't secure a marquee player. There are already suggestions draft concessions will be significantly greater for WS and they too will no doubt have wads of cash to throw at all and sundry. It is not easy to lure the superstars of the competition away from their clubs, as some of the newer clubs have discovered.

Its just common sense to hold out until both parties (i.e. the Crows and Tippets management team) are able to concentrate on signing players rather than playing finals.

Take a look at the teams that are no longer playing, they are all signing their players now, not 3 or 4 weeks ago while the season was still on.

In contrast we have players like Brian Lake who a deal wont be done on until the season is over - http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/84524/default.aspx

Tippet falls into the same category.

Furthermore, he his management team would be well aware of the fact that AFL players have a limited time frame to make big $$$, they would be the worst management team in history if they signed onto a deal early (for no other reason than to stop the rumours) which resulted in Tippet getting less money. This doesn't mean Tippet is money hungry, its just common sense. The club seem confident they can keep him...i'm happy with that.

I think if GC fail to get a marquee player the AFL will push to allow for a contracted player to opt out of a contract and be able to move and the first nominated player's salary would not count as part of the salary cap for the first year as it would need to have a substantial signing bonus to entice a player to move. I am actually surprised they didn't allow this for GC. If you put $5m signing bonus and could offer that to a contracted player then am pretty sure a fish would bite at that.
