Cheers fellas for the links, much obliged!
For those worried about reviews, giantbomb has given it a glowing one, and I find they're pretty good with their reviews. http://www.giantbomb.com/la-noire/61-21500/reviews/
I love GiantBomb, don't get me wrong, I'm addicted to the site and their Quick Looks, Endurance Run's, TNT's, Happy Hours (free one's anyway...will buy a membership eventually) etc.

But I gave their Quick Look a watch of this game (and for those that do want some insight into how it works, it's VERY spoiler free and gets you to at least see the basics).

I really can't get over the fact that every case cannot be failed, it's mind boggling, truly. That was one thing that even though Heavy Rain had barely any real detective work, you could still actually stuff that part up and not find the killer (for that character anyway).

There really is a distinct lack of a failure option, I get there needs to be a distinct narrative driving the story, but it still disappoints me that no matter what every case will end up being solved regardless of how shit you are at the game. It seems too cheap, too easy and too 'hand holdy' for me at the moment. Will be giving it a miss for now.
So you can't kill random pedestrians?

LAME!
You can only partially kill randoms. You can run them over, but cannot pull your gun out and start firing away.

This game is in no way related to other Rockstar titles, the owner of Team Bondi has said himself that the entire game barely had a change from when Rockstar stepped in. Rockstar being related to this game comes only from them publishing, it's the same as one EA game being the same from the next (which I know in a technical way can seem the same for some games, but obviously not every game is the same).
was reading reviews and got the ending completely spoiled for me. ahh sucks!!!!
Please post the site at least that had the review so as we don't have the same issue, thanks.

You can always attempt to solve the case properly from the get go. It's disappointing that you can't completely "stuff" up a case, but I can see the logic in that. Especially with the direction the game aims to take. From what I understand there will be several cases to be solved within one larger frame of events all of which ties up at the end. So OFCOURSE the game is going to sort of push you in the right direction at some point. You cant continually screw up and expect to go anywhere anyway. If you're able to solve a case on your first attempt, then the satisfaction derived from that is what will make the game worth playing for me.

Heavy Rain was good, with its numerous plot branches, but honestly it was nothing more than a movie with diff endings turned into a video game, which you only had control over in terms of direction. You wouldn't actually be able to drive cars, engage in gun fights, chases... each to their own but I find the higher level of interaction/control this game will have more appealing.

My mentioning of Heavy Rain wasn't to compare how these games play or anything like that, it was just that from a single part of the game that didn't really even revolve around the detective aspect still had a big effect on things if you stuffed up or didn't find things during your investigation.

Regardless of it being different in styles, whether you would consider it a game you played or not. The branching of stories or at least the possibility to fail a case was necessary for this title with such a huge focus on investigations.

All you really push is that the game remains linear to the point where the main focus becomes nearly superfluous. Of course I'd WANT to succeed in an investigation, but there's no real punishment if I don't and that is massively disappointing IMO.

So it's out today yeah? I read a post by someone a few days ago that said it was out on Friday, but the JB and EB websites both say it's out on Thursday.

Also, $78 at JB is a bloody great price! I have a $50 JB gift card from my birthday which I can use to get 64% off. Might just head in there tomorrow and pick it up if it's out. :D

What would you suggest they rather do though? From what I've read, if you screw up at one point during the investigations it seems as if you will just have to find a workaround and solve it by those means instead. So, in that sense it is a punishment.

And if anything, it probably reflects what happens in real life? Crimes investigators don't always get it right immediately or through their first sequence of actions, there's almost always trial and error involved and you only ever fail a case after you've exhausted ALL your leads. I suppose this is where the supposed flaw in the game is in that, you KNOW there is eventually going to be one lead that will "guide" you to solve the case. But given that there is supposed to be a grander scheme of events, which relies on the outcome of all the cases within it, then there really isn't any other option.

The only thing I'd suggest they should've done was to have side cases independent of the main storyline so that players can actually test their skills at detective investigating. I'm not sure if they exist as part of the game's side-missions; would be great if it is the case.

You can indeed do that, its out Thursday morning for sure

Branching of the stories for one. This has been a tool used in plenty of games, this one just seems to skip any of that type of notion and go for a linear narrative when in the scheme of things the game type actually calls for branching storylines.

The simple fact of things is that most real life cases aren't fumbled and bumbled over. Yes you can make mistakes along the way and still come to the right conclusion, but you can't make every single mistake there is to make and still end up putting the right person behind bars. It's just not realistic at all. And while I'm not exactly looking for true to life realism, I am still looking for something that is challenging. I don't want a game in which failure to do something right still ends up in the right thing happening anyway.

I get that you can't completely get everything wrong in this game and it just ends up clicking into place regardless. It'll basically be process of eliminations, but this still isn't exactly doing anything but the game quite literally showing you who it is and how it was done.

Maybe even potential dynamic end results too, open the game up to replayability. Something still structured, but offering different results every single time.

It's not as if this story is absolute gospel and could only have ever been done in a linear fashion. Stories can be molded around the action and worked to include this and that and this is an instant where a non-linear story and style would've worked wonders for the gameplay.

I agree with those saying that the decision to allow one to progress irrespective of whether they succeed or not is weird. It's almost like the game is a guided tour that you're being taken on, in the sense that it will stick to the plot irrespective of your actions.

Also, the open world seems to be wasted in LA Noire, simply because your actions are limited and there doesn't appear to be a great deal to do within the city itself.

Will probably wait until it hits the bargain bin, to be honest.

EB Market Square in Geelong are selling it for $88. No need to price match. Not sure if other stores are doing this as the guy said they had a shitload of stock at their store.

So does anyone know if you can free roam outside of missions? I was just watching some gameplay vids last night (trying ever so hard to avoid spoilers) and it looked to me like you simply progress from one mission to the next automatically with no in-between time. I hope this isn't the case. And if it is, I hope we can at least free roam around L.A once the story missions are done with.

You can free roam. There are collectables and you will get side missions over the radio (bank robbery in progress, etc)

Traded 3 games collecting dust in for this today. Thanks JB!

Early signs are that this game is very good. Graphics superb, sound great, and gameplay smooth. Only played a few preliminary missions which were piss easy, but I can see it getting trickier as the game goes on. Looking forward to getting stuck right into it over the weekend.

Not sure if it will have the depth of Red Dead Redemption, but then, I don't think it's fair to compare any game to what I consider to be close to the best game ever.

Just finished work, and picked the game up from Dungeon Crawl in the city.

Can't play until after training. Spewing, but cannot wait.

The bloke at Dungeon Crawl said he was amazed at the lip synching and the mo-cap.
