Lachie Hunter - Alleged bloody idiot

This doesn't do a lot for our 'brand' either. The club has worked tirelessly in recent times to promote itself as a caring, community organisation and to be the kind of organisation to attract sponsors and supporters from diverse backgrounds. Fortunately, we may have enough 'good citizen' credits in the bank to weather this storm but our clean reputation is nevertheless damaged by this incident.
The problem with taking the moral high ground and/or being a model club is that everyone is ready to pounce as soon as you set a foot wrong. For the next six months (at least) anyone who takes issue with any ethical statements made by the club - in fact anyone who has just been waiting for a potshot at us, like Damo - will just s****** and say "yeah right ... what about Hunter, then eh, mate? haw haw!"

It's like that joke about Stavros the goat f*cker. Or ScoMo (who should know a thing or two about image building) holidaying in Hawaii while the nation burned.

Reputations take years to build and can be ruined in an instant.

Contravening lockdown restrictions.
Drink driving.
Hitting multiple parked cars/destroying other people's property.
Leaving the scene of an accident.
Club brand damage, as vice-captain.
Potentially dragging other players (and their families) into the mess.

All this story needs now is one of the damaged cars preventing a healthworker getting to work,
or a family dependent on their car for something important being stranded.

Yes, he's young(-ish), but to brush this off as something minor as some posters have done is embarrassing.
(I realise one poster apologised.) There is no defense for actions like this - whether you're a highly paid 25yo
AFL footballer, or a 25yo average joe.

Agree with the fines, stripping of vc, suspension, but seriously he should have to stand up in front of car
accident/drink-driving victims/sponsors and healthcare road trauma workers and explain himself.

Great effort Hunter - actions of a f***wit.

One consolation - this is nearly as good as a match review thread. Thanks, Lachie!

All we need now is a player award where we can submit our 5-4-3-2-1 votes ... ummm let's called it the "Ding".
And I'm thinking of starting up a comp called the Pie-eyedman.

Well, he's got the 5 wrapped up. Unless Gowers or B.Smith have any active involvement, he probably gets the 4,3,2,1 as well.

he will explain himself in court and to his employer. Surely that’s enough.

Not helpful that he roped Smith and Gowers into it. It’ll be interesting to see whether they get whacked as well.

I remember Hunter started 2015 getting banished to the VFL for missing training followed by a betting scandal. He’s had plenty of warnings.

Deserves a serious penalty but time is on our side with no games coming up.

He's made a bad blue and he will pay for it, but don't take any notice of the media and any main board supporters who can't wait for something to happen to an opposition club.

For those wanting a harsher punishment than multiple game suspension being stripped of the VC and fine - what would in your mind be satisfactory?

Being sacked?

On top of what ever he is already going to cop at a state level as far as fines are concerned and damages to the cars.

I would suspend for 12 matches and come up with some form of community service, charity or something that aids people who've lost people to road accidents.

Edit: and he can never be seen in our leadership group again.

Confession time: I drunk drove when I was 19-20. Didn’t crash or get caught however. My brother did though. Difference was I was on $145 per week on Austudy not 500k. We all f**k-up boys. Lay the boot in but he hasn’t killed JFK.

Disappointing show from a "mature" player who's supposed to be setting an example for younger players. Whilst I'm not going to advocate a Salem witch trial, he will need to take whatever punishment is dished out by the Court and thank his lucky stars he didn't kill someone.

Latest is he hasn't done nuffink....

Hours before he had a massive row with his fiancee.

he needed an escape.

He drove to teammate Billy Gowers’ house for a drink — a clear breach of strict social distancing measures.

On the way there he smashed into four parked cars.

Hunter calmly approached multiple residents and exchanged licence details and phone numbers.

Hunter, believing the situation had been taken care of, left the scene.

He asked Smith to drop him off at Gowers’ South Yarra house.

According to sources, Hunter then drank with Gowers, thinking that wouldn’t be a problem.

The police tracked him down later in the evening and he failed a breath test.

He returned an evidentiary breath test of 0.123 – more than twice the legal limit.

Hunter is expected to strongly consider fighting the drink-driving charge, because he believes there isn’t any evidence to suggest he had previously been drinking.

If you crash into 4 parked cars...surely you call the police if you have nothing to hide?? how can a person believe a situation like what has occurred has been taken care of??

Quite the coincidence that one of the cars he just happened to hit was Bailey Smiths GFs parents.

You do not randomly smash into 4 parked cars if you a completely sober and doing nothing wrong.

Also one story has a quote from someone who’s car was smashed into saying he didn’t seem overly drunk which would assume he seemed some what intoxicated.

If his plan of attack is to not take any responsibility for his actions then he’s an even more piss weak leader than I thought when I first read the stories this morning

I think all of those things are fair and will probably happen.

I'm just making the point that it is premature to call for his sacking.

Smashing into four parked cars while sober's a fair effort.

No obligation to notify the police unless someone was injured.
If he has exchanged contact details he will get away with the leaving the scene charge.

Lol I know you are just reporting back what others are saying but these actions seem incongruous.
