I think the Eagles will be 3-2, with wins over Bulldogs, Demons and Saints, and losses to Geelong and Port.

Maybe not but it is certainly a tougher run than 4-1. Essendon and Port are 50/50 or close to and Swans and Pies should start favourites.

Over recent years Essendon has been a much tougher prospect at the start of a season than after the midway point of the season and we have historically started really sluggishly.

We would really want to start the season much better than we have in recent years, I think a lot of our early season problems in previous years came down to we only really had a best 10-15, the last 7-12 spots were not really positions held by players who locked down positions in the side. I think for this year there would only be a few positions that are not locked away. I hope this will help prevent the issues we have had in previous years where it took us a couple of months to even work out what was the best side.

North will be either 3-2 or 2-3.

Doesn't really affect North too much though considering their run home. If they are even after 12 rounds they are in a good spot to finish top 4.

Port will be 3-2 or 4-1. Will not lose to Carlton Brisbane or Adelaide. Good chance to beat WC over there and will probably drop the game against NM.

I feel like round one will be a cracking game - both teams with a lot to prove. Fantastic way to start the season for Essendon and North fans IMO - two teams who are matched quite evenly on paper but could go in any direction. Can't wait!

You lost both games home and away last year, so it's a fair enough call.

yeah and in 2012 we didn't beat collingwood but did that stop us from embarrassing them not once but twice last year? What happen in 2013 mean nothing in 2014. In the end we are a better club and will beat carlton. Thus us being 3-2 or 4-1, with the only challenges being North and west coast

How are Port a better team than Carlton?

If I get 7 out of 9 tips right in any given week, I'm generally pretty happy.

If I get 35 out of 45 tips right in five weeks, I'd be absolutely stoked.

If I tipped 35 out of 45 tips right in five rounds two months before the first game, more than three months before the last game, I would be a freaking genius. It would be a feat no one could match.

So unless one of the staff writers who put this together is the reincarnation of Nostradamus, we can pretty much guarantee that at least ten of those predictions are wrong, and almost certainly more.

Which renders the whole exercise pointless.

And no, I am not bitter that my team was put last on that ladder. Not at all. Shut up.

Runs on the board do count for something and Carlton have shown they can match the Port team. Carlton haven't lost to Port home or away since they were perennial bottom dwellers. You may well win the match, but speaking as though it's a lock is just foolish. Could easily go either way.

Foxsports has had a go:

I was about to unleash on you for having Collingwood 1-4 until I had a look at our First 5 weeks, damn, insanely hard.

Freo
Swans away
Cats
tigers
North

Then

Essendon
Carlton
Crows away.

We actually smashed you by 10 goals in 2012 when we were worse than shit.
