One of the worst coaching performances of the year!

Sydney put on there super flood and instead of forming a wall outside of the 50 our stupid players follow them in and cause massive congestion.

Sydney bomb it out and run down the field and kick easy goals, instead of kicking straight back to the players forming the wall.

Add that to keeping Gibbo on Hall to be r*ped very poor coaching!

Why was it that it seemed every ****ing time they went forward it was one out, usually Gibbo and Hall, and every time we went forward it was so congested you couldnt breathe??

Absolutely ****ing gutted.

I said earlier in the year that he just can't make that last step up to very good coach, and tonight sadly proved it again. Should have next year to prove himself or get the heave ho.

He never coaches well in finals. 1 win from 5 finals. In the finals we havent won we have been smashed badly.

Why was Petrie rucking most of the night????????????

Why did we allow them to dictate the flood to us????????????

Ugly game to watch....embarassed that my team played tonight and the flood conditions.

Apart from the above, there are far deeper rooted issues that Laidley needs to address and fix.

I think a cleanout and a few years away from the eight might get the right mix back again.

Till then, go the roos!

They had a few guys back but we didnt move it quick enough either.
when they flood we should set up a zone so they cant get it out. Its to our advantage to keep rebounding back into our 50.

Laids was very poor tonight.

Why didn't we do the same with Hale? Just leave him forward and put on the flood.

All he had to do was drop players out side of the 50. Sydney would have turned it over to us time and time again and might have forced them to change their strategy.

Instead we follow them in, cause congestion and they hurt us on the fast break. How many times did they just throw a mongrel kick on the boot and run forward? If we were smart we could have sat across the midfield and fed off their kicks out of defence.

Have to agree, but has been good enough this year. Sydney flooded, can't keep kicking it to one on seven, turned into pagan's paddock down the other end. Firrito could have been put on Gibbo, but Hall probably would've cut up whoever was on him. Smashed in the middle, we have no clearance kings, need to draft key defenders and gun midfielders.

Has done pretty decently most of the year, but yes, it was frustrating tonight. Enough to bring me back onto BF after an absence.

Why did our backmen follow their opponents into our forwardline? We needed to go back to 2006 play and chip sideways and backwards to pick apart the flood. Instead we kicked long and strong into a nest of swans.

It also would've given us some protection for when we turned it over (by kicking it to a nest of swans) by having some players behind the ball to help out the hopelessly outgunned Gibbo.

Poor coaching indeed.

Also our structure at the throw ups and ball ins was terrible, as I've said in other thread, I'd be worried about my tenure if I was our current midfield coach - as this has been where our season fell apart.

I have to say that Laidley was clueless tonight. Had no idea.

if you did that your club will die. you choice.

Only one team has been soft and unloved enough to relocate arseh*le.

Now kindly **** off. :thumbsu:

Talk about dying! What other club could draw that crowd to a final and not be embarrassed?
Oh, that's right AFL owned and a protected species.

Back on topic:

I kept waiting, and waiting to see Firrito on Hall. But every single time, it was just Gibson getting outmuscled, beaten & scored on.

Laidley.. What?!

It's been 6 years to the month that Laidley was appointed.
In that time he has won 1 final.
Only Carlton has won less finals in that time.
Based on that I don't think Dean's contract should be extended. He's had enough time to take the team forward, but on the evidence of the last month, he's taken them backwards.

It is in his contract that the negotiations must begin midseason, or something along those lines, so we're unlikely to be able to wait and see if he can win a final or two prior to extending the contract.

As frustrating as it feels after a loss like that, I would rather have Laidley as coach than any current assistant going around. Laidley himself has learnt so much in 6 seasons in the job - do we want to hand the job to another "learner"?

And as far as existing coaches go, or coaches with experience, I don't see any jumping at me that I would go for, or who would apply for our job, never mind being able to afford their salary demands.

For those reasons I reckon he will get a 2 year extension by midseason, unless we're having a shocking season.
