Landing Luke Ball

IMO - Melbourne would be mad to not get him with pick 18. With that pick, they are getting their 4th highest rated kid available. What odds are there that he will be better than Ball? Pretty slim. As a gambler, I would take the sure thing in Ball after taking 3 higher rated players.

Ball has something to prove. If he refuses to play for you, he has mental problems. Leaving one club due to lack of opportunities, then not wanting to play for a club where he can lead the midfield. Yes he wants success, but f..k me he can't get everything he dreams of.... who can?

We will get him at 30 only if other clubs are narrow minded in going for 'youth and more youth', or clubs are actually bluffed by his 'Collingwood only' approach.

We have little/no chance, but here's to hoping!

I can tell you that Ball will be at Melbourne next year. I believe his manager - O'Connor, will be talking to Melbourne next week. I think you will see pick 18 used on Ball by Melbourne.

We are resigned to the fact that if Ball is there at Pick 30 we will take him, if not another 2 options will be sought by us. Nothing gained, nothing lost.

What's the other two options?is one josh thomas because I really hope we will get him. I've had enough of the Luke Ball talk just can't wait until the draft is over so we can move onto next season and the players we have at the moment :D

I'd be more inclined to believe you if you knew his manager's name, but I agree that if Connors meets with Melbourne we're in serious trouble.

Could be to tell them thanks for your interest but my client is not interested.:thumbsu: If Bailey is true to his word about not drafting a player that doesn't want to be there then he wont.

I'm with the others on the Ball stuff. Can't wait until it's over so at least we'll know and can move on. I just have this feeling that it is going to be another Judd/Cousins type scenario where we will all get our hopes up about landing a quality player only to miss out again. At least this year we got Jolly!

Didak you have me intrigued with these two other options though. Any hints?

Surely you jest...

"He si a very good player, who could go elite if in the right environment"

If he was elite then he would have been in the Saints starting side for most of the year....they were a step and a class above everyone in the comp this year with the exception of the Pussies...

If this is the case then why didn't Ball just enter the PSD and join Melbourne that way?

Or did he think that he would be fair and do all other clubs a favour and make Melbourne waste a pick?

Our chances have gone from 50% at best, to something like 5% or less now that Essendon have been named as a preferred club. Can't see them passing him up if they have full access to him prior to the draft.

This. Very unlikely to get past 26 now on the back of 'Hutchy' stating in the Hun today that Connors is willing to discuss Ball with Essendon. They are even more likely to go for him if McPhee goes too.

Our only hope is on draft day a player slips to 26 that wasn't mean to and appeals to much to Essendon to overlook. Doubtful though.

I just get this feeling, that after Ball turns his back on a club that's been pretty good to him, and offered him a 3 year deal, that the footy gods may catch up.

Let's snag a good kid. Hoping that Ben Griffiths falls our way.

The "realist" in me says we are all but out of the running for Luke Ball, and that we now have to concentrate on hoping a highly touted kid drops to pick 30.

I'll still be happy with Josh Thomas at 30, but if a more highly rated player is available, especially a KPP, then we would be mad not to pounce, especially with Stkilda, Geelong and the Doggies right behind us in the draft order.

I was never too concerned if we picked Luke Ball up or not, if we did it was a "bonus", but let's be clear, whoever gets Ball isn't getting a player who is going to improve their side dramatically, his best football is quite simply behind him.

I don't mind if he goes to Essendon, a midfield that has Watson and Ball in it, would be that slow it would make O'bree and Lockyer look quick.

I'm just getting a sense of Nick Stevens like karma.

You mean when Port won the flag the following year, or when Carlton wallowed in mediocrity forevermore?

I think he Means a Player wants to play for Us but was Jerked around by his Former Club and Coach

And not only that, why didn't Ball nominate Melbourne as one of his choices? He named Essendon and Collingwood, no one else. He WON'T be going to Melbourne Dead Eye Didak.

Unless, he made a private deal with Melbourne behind the scenes and didn't want it to be known by anyone till draft day... but we all know that didn't and won't happen lol

Just to spite Collingwood.

Whatever you think of Ross Lyon, he is actually right.

The game of football has changed so you want quick players who kick accurately. Not slow plodders who turn it over.

That's all it is. Spite.

You seem to be spruiking some very "hot mail" of late in regards to Luke Ball and about being "in the loop".

Whether it is fact or fiction, what's the deal?

What does Luke Ball want and where is he mostly heading in your opinion?

Look at the end of the day are we really that fussed about Ball?

He would barely make our best 22 and in a few years time I think Beams, Macca and Sidey will be well past him.

Essendon can have him - they already have Watson, Welsh and Monaghan etc so wouldnt think that mix works. If Welsh had gone then sure he would be worthwhile.

Lions - Voss is bluffing. Whats he going to do. Take a player he hasnt interviewed and doesnt want to come............please. He is just playing games.

Pies are in a decent position to grab him - but I am not sold on taking him over a kid like Moore, Carey or even Thomas etc who will probably still be there.

I think thats exactly the point why we DO want Ball. We are in a position to win a flag NOW , not in a few years, and if Ball can add something to our list while the abovenamed mature, then we should go for it. These guys are only 19 odd years old. At the other end of the spectrum O'Bree is 30. We certainly have a gap we'd like to fill immediately in the "inside mid" category.

Of course as you say if we miss out we have other options - and can add to the list with a guy like Shirley or Harris or McDonald should we so choose - so its not the end of the world if we dont get him.

But if he's available, you've got to grab him.

Voss will snap him up if he's available. He's shown in trade week how he operates and will do anything for short-term success. He won't give a rats whether he want to go to the Lions or not. He'll just take him. Make their salary cap interesting.
