Re: Run DMC!

Good choice being a Raider player. It'll be amusing for the amount of uninformed/uneducated posts. But some of that's to be expected because most people don't watch Raiders games the last decade so wouldn't know much about them from watching them.

So basically you'll allow the posting of completely ridiculous threads on the board because you're a raiders fan.

Good work mod.

Re: Run DMC!

It's an exciting time for the NFL board, having a Raiders player-focused thread :p

We have these kinds of threads from time to time. Favre, Vick, Roethlisberger, Sanchez, Manning, etc etc.

We can use this thread as a count down of the 2,105 yards every week as Dmac approaches the record :D

As for my DHB comment, I meant in comparison with Crabtree, as he was the player everyone eyed the Raiders to draft that year, so him and Crabtree are forever going to be compared tho they play different positions (flanker vs split-end).

Re: Run DMC!

STO you forgot Britt as well - 89 catches, 1612 yds, 14 TDs

The 2 highest WRs taken in that 2009 draft have turned out to both be flops for various reasons

I didnt, it just became a pain in the ass getting all the stats.

Harvin also deserves in that class.

Massaquoi is still better than DHB.

Its really kind of hillarious. Of all the good and potentially sleeper WR's to pick in that draft, the raiders managed to find basically the only one with no talent at all to draft.

Crabtree was ranked #1, no doubt.

Still, it wasnt exactly a DBH v Crabtree battle at the top of the rankings. People had Maclin as the clear #2 etc. DHB wasnt even in the picture.

Its just about the most epic reach of all time.

DHB has talent .... just not as a receiver :p

Dont forget Suggs or Pierre-Paul to break single season sack record.

With the easy schedule we have and Ngata dominating the interior OL, Suggs certainly could get to 23 sacks this season. Its only 20 away with 15 games to go  You only need to see the Sugg's first sack to see how dominant that combo is

Re: Run DMC!

Btw, with all the records being broken already in week 1, i think it's on the cards to see some single season records broken this season across the board.

Check out the official NFL Records Twitter page to keep track of records broken as they happen here > https://twitter.com/#!/NFLhistory

Re: Run DMC!

You can bag DHB all you want, but he is not our worst 1st round draft pick in recent history!

Disagree.

Atleast Jamarcus had talent enough to justify the drafting. DHB is just spud worthy. Theres no real way the choice can be justified.

Re: Run DMC!

Depends on what you are grading the pick on I guess as to who was the worse pick.

JaMacus is the bigger bust, but its arguable that DHB is the worst pick because of positional value, the fact that JaMarcus was seen as a Top 5 pick whereas DHB was a reach at #7 and also the players taken at the same position in the same draft (i.e. DHB was taken before Crabtree, Britt, Maclin, Harvin, Nicks, Wallace etc who are all far more productive while the QBs taken after JaMarcus havent turned into anything good either)

Re: Run DMC!

Id argue the Jamarcus pick was a failure of development, not a talent issue.

The only questionable element of the drafting process was whether they failed to identify character problems.

Other than that, the problem was that they couldnt get him to reach his talent level, when they had him at the organisation.

DHB is the opposite. He might work hard etc, but he was a dud pick, in that he just doesnt have very much footballing talent.

Re: Run DMC!

The sad thing is DHB actually tries. jamarcus Russell did not. DHB did not ask to be picked at 7, but actually wants to be a player. Jamarcus just wanted to get rich and fat.

Sure.

Unfortunately its competitive sport. You dont get many points for very much not wanting to suck, if you never pull it off.

I look forward to DHB making a mockery of the haters. Yes, I'm being very overly optimistic. But it'd be nice.

Overly optimistic, or delusional?

DHB may improve, but the thing is: so will practically all of the WR's that I listed.

Re: Run DMC!

I still have hope that he might be a decent player. Lets face it, the QB/coaching/OLine have all sucked balls in recent memory at the Raiders. Will he ever be a pick 7 value player, probably not.

Whilst some of that is valid, I think people tend to make circular excuses.

Next we'll hear that the QB's sucked because there were no talented WRs. ;)

Re: Run DMC!

No, i specifically avoided placing blame, because I knew youd get your panties in a twist that only several hours of playing 'guess the lump' whilst googling Al Davis pictures would cure.

TBH, you cant have it both ways though. Either he was a bad draft choice, or he failed to develop. The Raiders wont escape criticism either pathway.
