Re: Message To Al

Cheers for that.

Weren't Chicago recently in a Super Bowl, 2006 or something?

On the Super Bowl, why have so many been played in New Orleans and Miami?
Biggest venues?

Warm climate

Re: Message To Al

The site and the initiative is starting to get more exposure.
Raiders beat writer Jerry McDonald has put up two entries on the site.
Here and here

As well as on local Bay Area TV news here

And the donations were put towards this huge billboard put up in Oakland...

Re: Message To Al

When the Saints were facing the prospect of relocation, fans got to together and started a similar campaign. The best idea was the plane flyover on gameday. Got lots of publicity even if laws prevented a flyover during the game.

Re: Message To Al

Was a lot cheaper than I thought it would be (can't recall but cheaper than billboards). I guess that would probably change based on the market. I actually contributed so you know it couldn't have been too much. ;)

Bumper stickers were another idea that had a great impact in spreading the message without a lot of cost. Wasn't too difficult to find a printer that followed the Saints.

The difference with the Saints was the focus was pouring bad publicity on the NFL post Katrina. Opposition supporters even supported what looked like a heartless money-hungry decision (I bet a few are regretting it now :))

Tags will always be the greates NFL commish in the eyes of Saints fans. Once the possibility of San Antonio started gaining traction he was adamant we weren't going anywhere. The flyover was timed for a game he was at and the message was directed at him specifically.

Raiders fans really need someone Al repects making statements in public. We had people like Terry Bradshaw offering to form a syndicate in NO if Benson wanted a move.

Exactly. The hard cold reality is Davis laughs at all this. Even all the empty seats and boycotting. Maybe that sends a message. I'm sure it will. But the good thing is this MessageToAl getting more exposure like it suddenly has, will eventually stir people that Davis respects into talking to him about it or talking publicly about it.

Re: Message To Al

During the day I often listen to late-night sports chat while working and I can't remember who or where I heard it but it was an Oakland sports reporter talking about the situation with the Raiders.

He pretty well said word for word what you just said and also added that Raiders fans have been abused in a different form by Al and that's alienating past players who love the team like the fans. And those he hasn't, they are too scared to speak publicly for fear of ending up on Al's black list.

Even though I have no love for the Raiders, they are one NFL franchise the NFL should be starting to worrying about protecting. Another relocation would destroy the fan base and I doubt they'd ever recover that support in a market they've already left once.

Re: Message To Al

Just spoke with Jared the site creator, he wanted to offer me a regular blogging role on there, and also said he's got an interview with the Wall Street Journal today, which is also running a story on this now too.

I think the timing has been right with all this....as in not just RaiderNation but a lot of America is fed up with Davis ruining the Raiders, everyone wants to see the team be better. I think the same would be true of the Lions and Browns, one day the Redskins too. Like how everyone is fed up with Snyder's nazi-like policy on signs at the game, etc. People just want these kinds of despots outed and storied franchises to be functionally good again.

Isn't a big problem for the Raiders the fact that everyone in the NFL wants a team in LA and the Raiders are a strong contender for that? I don't think anyone will protect them.

The NFL can't "sanction" Al for anything, can they? No public shaming or anything?

The NFL can use their influence to get their own way.

If the NFL say the Raiders aren't moving they won't move.

Personally I can't see the Raiders back in LA. I can't see the NFL wanting it either.

Re: Message To Al

I think the NFL is pushing for a joint Raiders/Niners NorCal representation with a new Santa Clara stadium.

The Raiders announced already only last week they've extended their Coliseum lease till 2013. I think again that's supposedly just in time for either the new LA stadium to be finished building, or the Santa Clara stadium to be finished building (if it gets the go-ahead, as the LA one has already gotten a go-ahead).

You know, Al already won that legal battle in the 80's when he moved them to LA. The NFL tried to stop him and he won. It also opened the door for the 31 other owners to have legal right to relocate without NFL interference.

Re: Message To Al

Yeah I realise that GG but the world has changed from the 80's.

See the NFL's comments re: San Antonio and the Saints.

The NFL more and more control the revenue streams and can indirectly force owners to do what they want. Sure a team could challenge them but why would an owner/owners take the risk?

I agree with you comments re: Santa Clara. One of the mains reasons I don't see the Raiders going anywhere.

Re: Message To Al

The Billboard is located just off I-880 ( less than a mile from the Coliseum), which is one of the busiest freeways in Norcal. This will definetely get some (good) exposure. I can't see Al being affected much by this, but if the whole nation turns against him..ie playing in a half empty Coliseum like Jacksonville, maybe he ll reconsider.

Re: Message To Al

If I were him, and the Raiders were my supposed life's passion, this would all break my heart.

I would have a cold, hard look at myself. But I ain't Al.
