As a head coach, I agree. But just as a play caller I think he could end up being pretty good.

As a HC with personnel control, yes.
As an OC, complete unknown at the NFL level. His offenses at UCLA and Ohio State have been very different to what he ran at Oregon and Philly.
Schematically he's light years ahead of Getsy.

Carroll already brought in his son Brennan to be the team’s offensive line coach. Now the old ball coach has added Andy Dickerson who was his OL coach his final two seasons in Seattle, to be the team’s assistant offensive line coach.
During Dickerson’s one season in Cleveland, the Browns had one of the worst offenses in the league. In fact, in the last three years of Dickerson as an OL coach in Seattle and Cleveland, he never had a running attack better than 30th in the league.
