Last two lines of our club song..

Anyway my first memory of that line being changed by the players was in 1993. We were on top of the ladder most of the year and it rhymed well, they sang it after every win. They kept doing it in the following years, even though none of them rhymed with the rest of the song.

Sorry to intrude - I remember the "premiers in 19....90....3", followed by the weird "1994" the next year but then never took much notice after that.

We had North's theme song as the club song for my cricket team as a kid. We always sang "just you wait and see" - I thought those were the actual words until right now.

My opinion we should go back to “you & me”, and when we sing “you” point forward with index fingers and then “me” point back at ourselves with thumbs.

Don’t know if that makes sense but would be great to see thousands of supporters doing this in unison.

So my first memory is probably "in 1993". The year thing probably died in 2000. Whilst 1994 to 1999 didn't rhyme, the new millennium didn't fit in at all. It was around that time we got the poxy "Go old Kangas" version.

I think we need some alignment between what the official club song is (i.e. played when we run out and after a win) and what the players sing..

Given the official song has a very soft and lame ending:

North Melbourne is the team that plays
To win for you and me

The players sing a better version of the song:

North Melbourne will be premiers
Just you wait and see

But the real version should be:

North Melbourne will be premiers
Down at Arden Street

Make it happen !

I grew up watching my dad playing footy until 1983 and his amateur footy club (North Old Boys) had the full “Hearts to hearts” North song and always included the year in the last line.

Nobody cared whether it rhymed as it would build to a crescendo with the final line shouted at the top of their voices with the mighty “OI” to finish it off.

Personally "will be premiers, just you wait and see" gives me PTSD as it reminds of that f*cking horrific travelling Kangaroos era alternate version that removes references to North Melbourne

Interestingly there have been 2 opportunities to change the words in recent times, those strange versions in 2018 where the stingy c*nts at the AFL decided they were paying too much in performance royalties, and knowing musicians in the 21st century will work for a bowl of gruel, re-recorded the club songs so they could own them. In that version the words stayed the same, but there was also the rock version Tim Rogers did, that no one liked so it lasted a fortnight, but that uses "North Melbourne will be premiers, just you wait and see".

Honestly I like the Arden Street line, but changing the lyrics/recording new versions never works out well for the Vic teams, remember the horrible Barry Manilow sounding updated version of the Pies song that changed the lyrics around? you can get arrested for merely mentioning it in Collingwood. I'd personally rather the money and time it would take doing a new version of the song put into a revamp of the current logo.

We are all far more civilised these days, but I must admit I was loving the hits in the kicking ass bit.

As a spectator sport, footy really peaked in the 80s/90s
